The Master of Finance in Alternative Investments (MFAI) gives students an in-depth understanding of how to make effective financial analysis and investment decisions while managing risk across a broad array of asset classes including hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, commodities, real estate, sustainable finance, and more. The program bridges theory, real-time data analysis, and ethical and professional standards while leveraging cutting-edge finance techniques and industry practices to provide the expertise needed to succeed. Isenberg’s partnerships extend the MFAI experience beyond the classroom, creating access to industry thought leaders and executives, conferences, research opportunities, and more. MFAI graduates interested in Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) certification can skip the Level I Exam and be eligible for one of 10 scholarships the association will have available for students taking the Level II Exam.
The one-year, on-campus program is offered at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and includes a 10-course curriculum (30 credits). The program is designed for those with some quantitative background in such subjects as calculus and statistics. Experience in the workforce is preferred but not required. The MFAI has achieved classification as a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program.
