B School

Emory University, Goizueta Business School

Industry: Community, EdTech

Founding Student Name(s): Chis Anen, Lyndsey Fridie

Brief Description of Solution: B School is a chat platform (think Slack, GroupMe, or Whatsapp) that has the goal of creating a connected environment for only MBA students across all schools.

Funding Dollars: $20,000

What led you to launch this venture?  While getting my MBA, I realized that, despite over 22 million collegiate students in the United States, there is no go-to chat platform to address student’s needs. I saw during the start of my MBA program that there was little to no communication across MBA programs. Students organizing events across campuses often have a hard time spreading awareness.

What has been your biggest accomplishment so far with this venture? Launching our platform on iOS and Android was a wonderful achievement.

How has your MBA program helped you further this startup venture? Our professors have been a great sounding board and actively connecting us to VCs and industry talent.

What founder or entrepreneur inspired you to start your own entrepreneurial journey? How did he or she prove motivational to you? I started my entrepreneur journey in 2013 when I launched my first venture back company. During that entrepreneurial journey, I met people like Dave Savant, Founder of Squire. I’ve seen the struggle, determination, and growth when building his company. These are hurdles all founders faced and also hurdles I have faced as well.

Which MBA class has been most valuable in building your startup and what was the biggest lesson you gained from it? Class of 2022. They have been a great audience to ask questions to and explore ideas.

What professor made a significant contribution to your plans and why? Amelia Schaffner. Amelia leads entrepreneur efforts at Goizueta and has been able to open many doors for me.

What is your long-term goal with your startup? We aim to launch in other graduate programs such as law schools, med schools, and eventually launch for undergraduate programs.
