Describe yourself in 15 words or less: I’m a prior-enlisted Marine Corps veteran and a die-hard Carolina Basketball fan.

Hometown: South Boston, VA

Fun Fact About Yourself: I graduated a nine-week dive course in the Marine Corps, and still have a civilian advanced-scuba license. I once found a fist-sized fossilized tooth of a Megalodon – a 70-foot-long prehistoric shark – off the coast of North Carolina.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: Becoming a Recon Marine.

Looking back on your experience, what advice would you give to future business school applicants? Start the process early. With enough time and effort, you can become a much stronger candidate by the time you actually apply — whether it’s by acing the GMAT, taking a new leadership role at work, enrolling in college courses, or getting involved in new activities outside of work.

What led you to choose this program for your full-time MBA? Initially, I wanted a small program, where I’d get to know everyone, with a strong veteran community. My wife wanted to be in a city (like Atlanta) where she could continue her career. We found a match in Emory.

Emory’s reputation, location, and small class sizes are hard to fully appreciate until you visit in person. The people at Emory are amazing, and Atlanta has so much to offer at an affordable price point. After visiting Goizueta, my wife and I knew that Emory was the perfect fit for us.

Tell us about your dream job or dream employer at this point in your life? I’d like to be an energy consultant, which ties into both my prior work experience in the utility industry and my interest in business strategy. More broadly, my overall job happiness depends on being challenged, having opportunities for personal growth, collaborating with friendly and intelligent colleagues, and working at a company with values that align with my own.
