What makes Atlanta such a great place to earn an MBA? Atlanta is currently experiencing a surge in popularity from many different angles. The culture and diversity of the city are starting to get the respect and investment they deserve. With that investment will come opportunities for talented professionals and entrepreneurs. While others can stare down the laid paths of New York and Silicon Valley, those of us in Atlanta will be charting a new course for those coming behind us. I’m very excited to see how I grow as the city evolves as well.

Aside from your classmates and location, what was the key part of Emory Goizueta’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? I chose Emory Goizueta’s MBA Program because of its warm, open atmosphere. I began networking with Goizueta years before I applied. At the time, the admissions team and faculty were automatically interested in me despite having no idea of who I was or where I worked. They were as happy for me to be there as I was. Since I started connecting with Goizueta, I always felt like a complete person – never a resume. From my application experience alone, I knew that this environment was perfect for me to embark on my MBA journey.

What course, club or activity excites you the most at Emory Goizueta? I’m most excited to join Toastmasters. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I love to talk. Toastmasters gives me the forum to do that and connect with more people who like to talk as much (or even more) as I do.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: The biggest accomplishment in my career occurred in my most recent role before coming to business school. I served as the project manager for an enterprise-wide program geared to evaluate, improve, and change the company’s current Diversity & Inclusion policies. Managing my cross-divisional team, we launched a new training program available to all 55,000 employees. In addition, we introduced guidelines to help improve the diversity of all future interview slates and panels, driving greater diversity at the company.

How did COVID-19 change your perspective on your career and your life in general? In my career, COVID-19 showed me the importance of the customer experience in all mediums – specifically in the digital realm. Social Media, digital apps, websites – there was always an opportunity to invest in these platforms for company growth. Now, the shutdown caused by the pandemic created the need for companies to bolster the experience in their digital channels to remain competitive. As I move through my career, I will always follow up on the latest trends within Service Design and marry that knowledge to the Marketing skills I will gain with my MBA.

In my life, COVID-19 reinforced the lesson that life is precious, and I should never take a minute of it for granted. After this realization, I have reflected on every aspect of my life to make sure I am always making the best decision. Also, I’ve realized that it is essential to step out of the mundane commitments of life to ensure that I take time to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

What led you to pursue an MBA at this point and what do you hope to do after graduation? I know the time is right for me to pursue an MBA because I took ample time to reflect on what I want to accomplish in my career and view my long-term goals. I knew I wanted to be a leader in marketing. Unfortunately, the opportunities to do so weren’t available with my current experience. Over time, I realized a full-time program would help me get my foot in the door as a career pivoter. During the shutdown, I was able to think deeper about where I wanted to go.

After graduation, I want to work at a company that allows me to grow my marketing skills, while gaining experience in service design. The experience will achieve my long-term goal of becoming a marketing leader – developing culturally competent marketing strategies and experiences for our customers.

What other MBA programs did you apply to? I applied to NYU Stern and McCombs School of Business at UT Austin.

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into Emory Goizueta’s MBA program?  +Don’t just stop at answering the question of “Why Goizueta?”; focus also on answering the question of “Why Goizueta and why not {insert school here}”.

Build genuine relationships with everyone you meet here. The faculty, ambassadors, and Deans are all looking forward to speaking with you. When they tell you to reach out, do it. They mean it.
