What has been your favorite part of the Twin Cities so far? What has made it such a great place to earn an MBA? 

My favorite part about the Twin Cities is the amazing restaurants! It’s a Foodie’s paradise. It’s a great place to earn my MBA.  The Carlson School has a well-connected community, so the networking opportunities have led to many additional insightful and interesting conversations and connections.

Carlson MBA spend a year in hands-on Enterprise programs for Consulting, Branding, Ventures, and Funds. Which program do you intend to enroll in? What excites most about your Enterprise program?

I enrolled in the Brands enterprise and am most excited about the challenges and problems that we will collectively collaborate on and solve for some of the top companies in our area! I am looking forward to gaining more experience with cross functional management and the understanding how to bring products to market.

Aside from your classmates, experiential learning, and location, what was the key part of the Carlson MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you?

The opportunity to be a part of the Medical Industry Leadership Institute’s (MILI) Valuation Lab.  Learning the process of how to bring medical devices to market has been a huge growth opportunity. It has allowed me to marry my healthcare background with my business acumen all while keeping patients at the forefront. I have also had amazing exposure to Carlson alumni who are working in the medical device space. They have provided amazing insight and advice about navigating internship and career expectations.  The experiences and networking associated with the healthcare space was a key part of why I chose Carlson!

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far:

Earning my Critical Care Certification was a huge achievement for me. Being able to better serve my patients with the knowledge I obtained by becoming certified allowed me to maintain up- to -date knowledge and best practices that I could share with my peers.

Describe your biggest accomplishment as an MBA student so far:

My biggest accomplishment so far has been my ability to take constructive feedback, grow, evolve, and ask for help when I need it. My  transition from nursing to the business world has been an incredibly humbling experience, but with my classmates pushing me and their willingness to help, I’m excited about everything to come on this MBA journey.

What has been your best memory as an MBA so far?

The MILI Valuation Lab in Palo Alto! Leading up to the program, I learned so much about how much work goes into evaluating medical devices for market. I have been able to connect with Carlson alumni and experts in the industry who are using business as a force for good and am getting real world exposure to solving some of the medical device and healthcare industry’s biggest pain points!

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into the Carlson MBA program?

 It’s ok to desire a career change but to not know exactly what that looks like for you yet! Be yourself, ask questions, seek out opportunities and doors will open for you. Trust the process: the faculty, career center and admissions department are always open to listen and answer questions. If you never ask, the answer will always be no, I say go for it!
