After leaving a career in financial services, Heidi Granner headed to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business to earn her MBA. Among her other activities while studying at Chicago Booth, she worked as a member of the admissions team evaluating applications and interviewing candidates. After graduating, Heidi began a career in management consulting with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where she worked with clients in consumer goods, financial services, and industrial goods while guiding BCG Associates through the MBA admissions process in her free time. She was also heavily involved in recruiting, including interviewing more than 100 MBA students and leading a project to define BCG’s global recruiting strategy. She later joined The Wonderful Company as Director of Strategy, where she worked primarily on the Cuties Clementines business, all the while redesigning and leading recruiting efforts for the Strategy Group. Heidi found her passion in one-on-one coaching and has worked as a full-time MBA admissions coach for six years. She was selected to lead Beat the GMAT’s Write Like an Expert Series for Booth and was invited to meet with admissions teams on-campus at Wharton, Columbia, University of Texas, and NYU.

Heidi made a true effort to understand me and who I was and where I would be a best fit for my MBA. She helped me narrow down my schools to 6 schools that we felt I would be the best fit for. After that we worked together to really bring the best out in me in terms of everything and she really helped me stay on top of things! I ended up receiving acceptances to 4 out of 6 of my schools and was waitlisted on one other one! I got into my top choice Umich Ross and I will be attending there this fall! I can’t recommend Heidi and mbaMission enough!!
I had the privilege of working with Heidi throughout my MBA application journey and I could not be more grateful. I initially signed up for a 3-school package, but eventually decided to apply to 3 more schools in round 2. Through the process, Heidi has been nothing short of amazing as she helped me with narrowing down schools that would best fit my goals, highlighting key points in my personal story, and providing thoughtful feedback on any questions or concerns I had.
Even after I had applied to the 3 target schools in my package, she continued providing additional support and essay tips for my schools in round 2. I can confidently say she does not hesitate to go above and beyond for her clients.
Although I was initially hesitant, looking back now I can say that investing in the service has been one of the best decisions I’ve made and I have no idea how I would have tackled this process without her guidance. I would HIGHLY recommend working with Heidi as she has been fantastic and will definitely help you achieve your goals!
I decided work with Heidi on an hourly basis and she was very helpful throughout my application journey, in particular helping to recraft my resume, polish my essays and become more confident at interviewing – working with Heidi allowed me to stand out much more and ultimately enabled me to secure an offer at my dream school! She was very professional, responsive and easy to work with – highly recommend!
I had the pleasure of working with Heidi during my MBA application process, and I can confidently say it was an enjoyable experience. From start to finish, the process was seamless thanks to Heidi’s exceptional organization skills. Her ability to break down tasks and help me set achievable goals alleviated much of the stress associated with applying to MBA programs.
Heidi’s support throughout the process was invaluable. Despite the inherent stress of applying to top-tier schools, I felt reassured knowing that she was always available to offer guidance and assistance. Her thoughtful approach and willingness to go above and beyond ensured that I never felt overwhelmed or alone.
In terms of helpfulness, Heidi exceeded my expectations. While I initially had a clear idea of what I wanted to convey in my essays, Heidi encouraged me to delve deeper into my life experiences and goals. Through our collaboration, I found myself revisiting and refining my narrative in ways I hadn’t anticipated. In the end, my essay practically wrote itself, and I owe much of that success to Heidi’s expertise and support.
And the ultimate outcome speaks volumes: I was accepted into Stanford! Heidi’s guidance undoubtedly played a significant role in this achievement, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Without hesitation, I would wholeheartedly recommend Heidi to anyone embarking on their MBA journey. Her combination of kindness, intelligence, and insight creates a supportive environment where applicants can thrive and succeed.
Heidi is an absolutely amazing MBA consultant, but she is much more than! She’s the mentor and coach you want to have on your side during an application process which can be tedious, nerve-wracking, and filled with ups and downs. Heidi really tries to understand you as a unique individual and has an invaluable knack for identifying the best aspects of your personality (which you might not have considered) to make you shine in a crowded applicant pool. Heidi took my overrepresented finance background and found ways to showcase my academic, professional and personal accomplishments in a new light which was crucial to pitching a differentiated candidacy.
She is a breeze to work with and her rapid response times, thoughtful and creative suggestions and perennially positive attitude will provide a much-needed anchor when you’re juggling your professional responsibilities with multiple applications and myriad essay prompts.
If you want to shoot for a top business school, look no further than Heidi!
Heidi took the time to truly get to know me and help shape my application to stand out amongst my peers within the finance industry. She truly brought out parts of my past (professional and personal) that I never would have thought to include. It felt like she knew me better than lifelong friends and that I wasn’t just a number to her. She was also realistic about setting expectations for the schools I was applying to and my chances. Ultimately, she helped me get into three M7 programs, including receiving a scholarship, which I would have never imagined given the overrepresentation of my profile. I gained comfort in selecting Heidi in hearing the ideas she already had for me and my application during our 15 minute intro call.
She guided me through the process of choosing business schools. I aimed to apply to 20 top schools in a short period. After extensive discussions, we carefully selected six fitting options and prepared the necessary materials. Heidi was accurate and concise in helping me highlight key differentiators in both my essays and resume. Although crafting the first draft took time, it was worth it. My second Kellogg essay was so impactful that made myself cry! It was a very hard job for me and Heidi to create a unique and impactful story since I used GMAT waivers. Thus, the story should have been very perfect to be shortlisted for an interview and we successfully made it! I prepared my applications for Kellogg, Sloan, Darden, Ross, Johnson, and Questrom, securing interviews for 4/6. Heidi remained humble and approachable throughout the whole process, patiently answering all my questions. After receiving the interviews, she generously provided a free one-hour mock interview and gave me detailed feedback on how to answer the questions, prepare the logistics, and dress. All helped me secure a seat in my dream school! In the end, I got admissions to Kellogg, Ross, and Questrom—and a waitlist for Johnson. Truly the best moment of my academic journey! I truly enjoyed my experience working with mbaMission and Heidi and recommend their service.
I worked with Heidi on a 4-school package prior to R1 applications. From our first interactions, I could tell she was extremely knowledgeable and more importantly, deeply cared about understanding me and my goals to help me put my best foot forward.
After walking through my background and talking through my post-MBA career goals, Heidi helped me select target programs that were most closely aligned with my aspirations. Once I had submitted my detailed brainstorming document, Heidi came to all of our essay brainstorming calls with awesome ideas on different parts of my background that I could weave together into a cohesive story. She even pulled together a day by day calendar of application milestones I needed to hit over the summer to make sure all my applications would be ready in time.
Heidi was wholeheartedly committed to making sure I submitted the best possible application. I frequently scheduled short check-ins with Heidi to talk through different essay ideas or get some nagging questions answered. We once rewrote the opening paragraph of one of my essays 7 or 8 different times to make sure it conveyed what we wanted it to. She helped revamp and wordsmith my resume and almost always returned documents I had shared for review well ahead of schedule. In the final weeks before submission, she was gracious enough to work with my recommenders to make sure they got all their questions answered about writing my letters. Her flexibility and willingness to accommodate was incredibly appreciated by all of us.
With Heidi’s help, I was admitted to GSB, Wharton, Kellogg, Yale, and Darden, and was fortunate to receive full rides or significant scholarships everywhere. This truly would not have been possible without Heidi’s guidance and support. There is seriously no better partner / cheerleader to have by your side throughout the MBA application process than Heidi. She is simply the best!
I worked with Heidi throughout the summer, and she was instrumental in helping me communicate my experiences and aspirations and organize my materials. First, I was applying during a very busy time at work. Heidi helped put together a calendar for me to effectively draft and review my various essays, while also paying attention to key deadlines and admissions events. Whenever unforeseen circumstances arose which impacted this schedule, she would work with me to adjust the remaining time to ensure no deadlines were missed. Second, Heidi provided invaluable critique on my essays. My writing tends to be verbose, so for multiple applications with restrictive word limits, Heidi’s feedback ensured my writing was concise without sacrificing authenticity or comprehensiveness. Third, Heidi helped me select and prepare recommenders whose responses played a huge role in my admissions. Overall, Heidi masterfully connected where I was, with where business schools look for stude nts to be, and helped me articulate a clear vision for how to get there. I highly recommend Heidi to any prospective student looking to refine their materials to fit their dream school.
I worked with Heidi Granner in a two school package and could not be happier with the results having been accepted to both schools. The process was extremely straightforward, organized and stress free during the time that we worked together. Every aspect of the application was thoroughly discussed and Heidi offers extremely personal and direct feedback throughout the process. The full school package exceeded my expectations and made the application process much more enjoyable. I would recommend working with Heidi and mbaMission to anyone that is looking for any type of guidance on the MBA application process. From brainstorming stories about my childhood and life to organizing my thoughts on my career transition, Heidi was critical in guiding my thought process in the right direction towards MBA admission success. There was never a moment when I felt stressed or that I was getting impersonal feedback through our work together. Coming from an atypical background I was nervous to apply to business school but Heidi’s work process ultimately helped me achieve my goals of being admitted to an M7 school.
I was in a severe time crunch when I decided I wanted to apply to a business program. I had 3 weeks before the round 4 deadline and I was also getting married a week after the deadline. I originally did not have plans of reaching out to an admissions consultant as I had used one for my Master of Science degree and had had a bad experience working with one. Owing to the time crunch situation that I was in, I decided to reach out to an admissions consultant. I read through a few reviews and did my research before picking a firm and a specific consultant. The most important thing that I learned in this research process was that the connection with the consultant was very important. Hence, I signed up for a few 30-minute trial sessions with different consulting firms to gauge my connection with different consultants. I finally ended up going with Heidi Granner from mbaMission. She gave me realistic advice taking into consideration my unique situation (I have a fairly non-traditional background though I’m from an Over-represented demographic) and background. The process was very streamlined with a lot of focus on introspection and self-discovery. If I had not hired Heidi, I don’t think I could have picked the appropriate experiences and subsequently crafted a well-rounded story. Heidi is a skilled storyteller, a great listener, and an empathetic consultant. I only applied to two schools but still got into a top-tier – European business school. I’m more than happy that I picked mbaMission and particularly, Heidi as my consultant!
I am 100% confident I wouldn’t have achieved the results I did without Heidi’s expertise.
Heidi is a reliable and practical consultant who will be honest with you from the start while still being warm and encouraging. Do not fear that your essays won’t sound like your voice — Heidi is amazing at providing guidance and suggestions for strengthening essays while having you very much keep your own writing style/voice.
As someone who admittedly isn’t the best with time management (especially for longer-term projects/goals — i.e. completing 4 applications over 2 months), I was open about this with Heidi from the start and asked for her support. She built me a custom calendar that had all of my deadlines — not just when apps were due/should be submitted, but also when I needed to send her essay drafts so we’d have sufficient time to go back and forth on editing essays. Having her help build this structure for me made the whole process way less daunting and more approachable.
Applying to business school is an overwhelming time, and Heidi always empathized with how I felt. I was also unsure of how I could possibly craft a “story” based on my background, and I really wasn’t sure how to form a narrative around my future goals, but Heidi was tremendously helpful in that regard, which made the process much more enjoyable and gave me clarity personally as well.
Heidi has a strong and up-to-date understanding of what different schools look for/care about in an application. Her understanding of individual schools also allowed her to provide her honest perspective about the pros/cons of programs based on my personality, interests, etc. I also loved that Heidi was part of the larger mbaMission organization, as I felt that I had access to other resources if necessary. For example, I was particularly concerned about the direction I’d taken in one of my essays and whether it “made sense” for a particular school. I fully trusted Heidi, but she also offered to share my essay with another mbaMission consultant — an expert in that particular school — who affirmed Heidi’s sentiments.
I applied to 4 schools – Booth, Ross, Wharton, and Sloan. Accepted to both Booth and Ross with merit scholarships + Forte Fellowships and will be attending Booth in the fall (my top choice all along, which Heidi was well aware of!). I interviewed at Wharton but was ultimately denied, and I didn’t receive an interview at Sloan.
I definitely recommend working with Heidi and mbaMission! Thank you, Heidi, for your time and guidance!
Heidi was a crucial part of my application process. I worked with her for CBS and was able to convert it. Being from an overrepresented demographic with an average GMAT score, I was skeptical of even getting an interview at CBS so I feel Heidi’s support really made all the difference. She helped identify the most unique aspects of my story and provided brilliant suggestions on all parts of the application material. Her depth of experience was evident in the quality of school-specific inputs she shared, which helped me tailor my resume & essays well. Her feedback on my material was clear, concise, well-reasoned, and always on schedule (even a day before the deadline in one instance!) She also helped me with a mock interview, where again the depth and breadth of feedback provided were unparalleled. Not only was she able to fine-tune the content of my answers but also helped improve the body language and overall presentation.
Would absolutely recommend Heidi to anyone looking for expert help with their B-school applications!
Heidi helped me to clarify and strengthen my personal story and career goals in order to stand out, especially coming from an overrepresented Big 4 consulting background. She was very efficient and was able to support brainstorming, resume, essays, short answers, and interview prep in a smaller package of hourly services. The biggest benefit of using mbaMission and Heidi was the time, and stress, I saved. I had access to the best materials and always had proper direction along the way. I’m extremely happy with my results, getting into one of my top M7 choices.
I purchased the 5-hour package for consulting on my Wharton EMBA application. I thought that I already had a good sense of what my application/story should look like. However, I strongly believe that I would NOT have been accepted to Wharton had it not been for Heidi’s feedback and coaching. Heidi reviewed my application, resume, and two essays. We also did a mock interview once I got to that stage of the process.
Heidi’s feedback was instrumental in “tightening up” each portion of my application. She is most efficient with her time and ultra-responsive. In terms of her review style, Heidi provided both general feedback and detailed comments/suggestions on how I could improve sections of my resume/essays. She always provides insights on what she likes in addition to suggested improvements. For improvement areas, she offers probing questions or suggestions for how to make the section stronger. This style really helped me understand where she was coming from and what the admissions committee was looking for. It also created fewer iterations in getting to my final product. Heidi is also very encouraging and such a nice person to work with! She was so invested in helping me succeed; I would not be where I am without her.
The EMBA process, like the full-time MBA, is quite daunting. I would 100% work with Heidi again and recommend her services to anyone looking to gain acceptance to their dream program. It worked for me!
When I started the application process, I had a pretty clear sense of where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do through my MBA…but absolutely no sense on how to articulate it all clearly and coherently. Heidi helped me sort through the “brain dump” of information I had related to my career journey and passions to craft a series of sharp essays and stories for me to share with schools. And I got into my top choice in Round 1, with a scholarship! Heidi was super easy to work with – easy to talk to, flexible on timing, quick to respond, and gave very tactical/actionable feedback. With her help, the whole process was much more manageable and I was way more confident. Thank you so much Heidi!!
I was initially only planning on using mbaMission’s free 30-minute consultation, but Heidi provided so much helpful insight on how to frame my planned career path during our first conversation that I decided to pay for additional hourly support. These additional hours were well worth the money and helped me substantially improve my personal essays and create an overall cohesive application. I don’t think I would have gotten into my top choice school without Heidi’s help! I would highly recommend working with Heidi!
I cannot recommend Heidi enough. I especially recommend Heidi for those with non-traditional backgrounds. She taught me how to translate my skills and goals so they could be universally understandable – not just to someone in my sector. I had trouble expressing how it applied in a business context, and she adeptly interviewed me and highlighted how my experience could be better understood. She kept me on track and made sure my application had a consistent narrative from start to finish. The mbaMission structure was helpful and allowed me to focus on writing the application materials instead of scheduling and coordination. Above all, she was kind and supportive throughout the process.
Heidi is a superstar consultant and has helped me achieve excellent results. I was a bit skeptical of admissions consulting and mbaMission because of the fees, but after working with Heidi, I think it was definitely worth the investment and more. I started the process without having yet taken the GMAT, and so she helped me develop a comprehensive 6 month action plan that incorporated the test prep time. Heidi pushed me to brainstorm my work experience and background in a comprehensive document early on, and given her vast experience with the different schools, she helped me choose the right stories for the school prompts. When it comes to essays, Heidi was amazing at helping me sharpen my ideas and focus on what matters most in essays. She developed a deep understanding of my work experience and background which made it very easy to exchange essay ideas with her. Heidi’s support extends beyond essays and included helpful support to pick recommenders and preparations for interviews. Throughout the engagement, Heidi was very committed, cheering, and supportive. She will always return documents within 2 days (and sometimes less) and be there when you need her (did a mock interview for me even though she was on holiday). Heidi was more optimistic about my candidacy than other consultants and she was right. The results of working with her speak volumes about her caliber, I am happy to have been admitted to both Wharton and HBS. You can trust Heidi.
I was able to get into one of the M7 schools thanks to countless working with Heidi. She helped me understand the entire application process on a whole new level. I wouldn’t have succeeded without her wealth of experience, patience, commitment, and most importantly, her passion for helping me develop my own story. Throughout the application process, Heidi was extremely attentive to every detail that mattered. She was always responsive and honest with me whenever I had any questions or concerns. She constantly pushed me to think deeper about my narratives, essays, and even short questions in the data form. Even in the days leading up to the submission deadline, she really stretched herself to allow me a couple more revisions until I could not find anything further to add or change in my essays. The mock interview for MIT which I had with Heidi was a real confidence booster, and I loved that it was tougher than the actual interview and the practicality of her advice made me a lot more prepared. Without Heidi, such a daunting mission wouldn’t have been so easily broken down into a list of doable tasks with detailed guidance from her every step of the way. I sincerely appreciated having such a supportive partner along the at-times stressful and difficult journey. Thank you, Heidi! Anyone would be lucky to have you as their admissions consultant.
Overall, I enjoyed Heidi’s services and am very pleased to see results as someone coming from a non-traditional industry. Heidi has always been very responsive and friendly throughout this application process. Her comments on my essays provoked many of my own deep thoughts and recollections that are critical yet otherwise might have been missed if not for her editing. The whole process is fairly structural with good timing for each step of the way. I paid for a 3 school package and DIY’d 2 on my own. Heidi was also able to provide me with lots of help on the additional schools while she can.
Like many other consulting services, Heidi’s support would still rely on my own good tracking of progress and time management. I think that’s fair but she would certainly send a reminder if I was ever too far behind. I would highly recommend Heidi if you are looking for a responsible and knowledgeable consultant.
Heidi was integral to my MBA application process, and I truly could not recommend her enough. When I first met with her, I was very lost on where to begin with my essays and she provided several exercises to get me going. From there, I was able to find a thread throughout my life/career that felt true to who I am and where I’m going. Without her, I am positive that I wouldn’t have come out with such a strong essay.
Heidi was also very helpful in preparing me for interviews by conducting a simulated mock interview where she asked some tough questions and gave honest, constructive feedback. I know I wouldn’t have been as well prepared without her.
Finally, she played a major role in my decision-making process. I was very torn between 2 schools, and she not only offered her own advice, but also sourced thoughts from her network to help bring in additional data points. I felt confident with my final decision thanks to Heidi, and I intend to stay in touch with her throughout business school and beyond.
I looked at 4 MBA admissions consulting firms and chose mbaMission for several reasons: I had a few friends who had used them (and all got into M7 schools), and because my initial conversation with Heidi was very positive.
Heidi has lots of admissions experience in general and with candidates with a similar profile to myself (having not come from a more traditional career path). Heidi was extremely responsive over email throughout the process, and I always felt supported and clear about my timeline. Even when my first few GMAT attempts did not go according to plan and we needed to change the timeline, she was able to draw up a new calendar and I did not feel rushed or behind the ball.
Heidi was instrumental in making me feel prepared through her essay edits (which she turned around very quickly), mock interviews, and general advice on school selection. While MBA admissions consulting firms are very expensive, I feel like I got a great value working with mbaMission and Heidi!
I decided to work with Heidi because I needed someone to work through my essays with me and help me to understand the best way to craft my story for business school. Heidi delivered on all of this and more by making the process enjoyable and helping me to think about what I wanted the schools to know about me. She was very good at asking questions to understand where I wanted to go and helping me to come up with concrete examples that would demonstrate my claims. She was also very accessible and always willing to help when I needed it. I would absolutely recommend that anyone applying to business school work with Heidi.
I was hesitant about investing in an MBA admissions consulting firm because of the price tag, and looking back I have no regrets in investing in the hourly services package with MBAmission. Every minute spent with Heidi was SO SO valuable – she helped me get into every school that I wanted to get into and clearly directed me/answered all of my questions. Whether it was my resume review, outlining my essays, or even random questions about my application goals. She understood how I wanted to spend my time and never wasted a minute working with me. I could not have done it without her!!!!
I worked with Heidi in preparing 4 round 1 applications for 2021/2022 admissions cycle (i.e., for spots in the class of 2024) and she was the most amazing resource as I completed my essays and prepared for my interviews. I could rely on her to provide helpful, constructive feedback without undermining my confidence and she was a stellar communicator — always being clear about when I would hear back from her and what to expect. I was on the fence about using an admissions coaching service and I am SO beyond glad that I did. Heidi was such a wonderful resource for me and I credit her with helping me to have such a successful application experience.
I enquired about mbaMission following a year of studying and 5 unsuccessful GMAT attempts. The pressure of getting a test score that I was comfortable with was all-consuming. I hadn’t even begun to think about the application process with round one deadlines only a few months away.
Working with Heidi immediately lifted the weight of the world off of my shoulders. With years of experience helping aspiring MBA students get admitted into the schools of their dreams, Heidi put together a comprehensive game plan to ensure that I met all of my deadlines. It felt like Heidi was truly invested in my success throughout the process, providing detailed feedback and guidance on every component of my application.
Heidi took a genuine interest in learning about my background and career aspirations, which proved to be invaluable in helping to craft my story. I learned a lot about myself throughout the admissions process and truly cannot thank Heidi enough for all of her guidance and support along the way. Heidi is the best of the best!!
After struggling with my essays for a whole month, I decided to get a consultant to help me improve them. Choosing Heidi was one of the best decisions that I’d made in my application process.
She first helped me realign my career goal with what I’ve accomplished and what might be more possible. Then, we started working on my essays and resumes. She was very insightful, always asking the right questions to keep pushing me to reflect on myself, to dig deeper into my stories, and to realize what I want to highlight and what is unnecessary. In addition, she knew very well how to motivate others, and turned the painful writing/revising into a smooth process.
With her help, my essays became a lot more compact and compelling. I got multiple M7 offers, including my dream school Wharton. This won’t happen without her help and support! I highly recommend Heidi to anyone who is considering an application consultant.
I had just finished my fourth attempt at the GMAT and was finally happy with my score, but I had a new problem. I was 6 weeks out from my first deadline. I spent a week conducting consultations and reading review after review after review – I get it, reviews seem fabricated and even one bad review must be a red flag, but TRUST Heidi.
I knew at this point I had to decide, against four other consultants and companies, I chose Heidi. In our consultation, Heidi gave me an objective perspective and didn’t feed me what I wanted to hear nor disparaged me into thinking I would get into no school without her. She was direct but honest.
We hit the ground running and had several phone calls in the first two weeks, building out my story, my career vision, and everything in between. There was a lot of work and self-reflection on my end, while Heidi served as a guide to bounce off questions and brainstorm the direction of my application. Heidi built me a five-week calendar including, at least, three rounds of reviews per essay, though we often went closer to five. For a five-week span and against four different schools, this was a lot.
Throughout the process, Heidi returned essay reviews quicker than the committed mbaMission turnaround time and was always very responsive in emails. Even 24 hours before the deadline, I was sending her simple questions on the application itself and she responded promptly. Ultimately, Heidi was instrumental in helping me secure 2 admits and 1 WL among 4 M7s. As an ORM with average stats, I have been very pleased with the results.
No MBA Admissions consultant will spoon-feed you what to write or what your story should be. If that’s your expectation, you will be sorely disappointed with any consultant. But, as a guide and trusted advisor through the process, Heidi excelled, and I would have no doubt repeating the process with her again.
I know choosing a consultant is scary and the cost is nothing to scoff at, but believe me when I say you can TRUST Heidi.
In spring 2020, I declined five acceptances to MBA programs due to COVID-19. Although I was accepted to my dream school, Wharton, I hoped to reapply and earn a scholarship. With Round 1 deadlines quickly approaching, I questioned whether I should also throw my hat in at Harvard. During my first call with Heidi, she helped me unpack my story, dig deeper, and uncover a side to myself that I had been afraid to share. She assured me that we could create two compelling packages for HBS and Wharton within a few weeks. Her support gave me the confidence to apply to both schools.
When I submitted my essays to Heidi for review, she responded quickly and provided feedback that was tangible and in-line with my personal message. Her comments never took away from my authentic voice and enabled me to create two applications that I was incredibly proud to stand behind. I was accepted to HBS and received a full-tuition scholarship to Wharton!
I could not have accomplished this feat without Heidi’s support! In addition to being an excellent admissions consultant, Heidi is a wonderful human being. Her positivity and thoughtfulness are unmatched. I am so grateful for her help and HIGHLY recommend her!
I can highly recommend Heidi Granner and mbaMission to any applicant looking for guidance throughout the MBA application process and having doubts about the overall strength of their profile.
For the context, I’m an international student with a number of strengths, but quite a few issues to overcome or mitigate. To name a few, age (I’ll be in my mid-30s upon graduation), non-posh and trendy finance background, number of pre-MBA employers, ok but not stellar GMAT, and non-MBA recommenders were on top of my lengthy list of concerns. Without a doubt, working with Heidi was one of the best, if not the best decision I have made during my pre-MBA journey. She provided invaluable guidance throughout the process, from narrowing down the list of target schools to brainstorming on essay topics, packaging the career story and specific achievements into a comprehensive but easily digestible narrative, and preparing to various interviews. I deeply enjoyed our sessions with Heidi during which she steered my thinking in the right direction without being pushy or making essays and answers to application and interview questions look over-crafted. Last but not least, Heidi’s comments were always spot on, her document turnaround time was highly impressive, and she was always available for calls and extremely responsive via email, regardless of how banal or extravagant my questions were.
By the end of the application process, I had a feeling that I put my best foot forward and managed to develop a personal brand without distorting or embellishing the past. Despite the frenzy of the pandemic, deferrals offered to quite a few international students last year, and my own skepticism about my chances of admission, I managed to achieve an 80% success rate on my applications to T15 schools on the first try.
Of course, using a consultant requires a lot of time and effort invested into the process, but professional support definitely pays off, and I am very happy with the achieved results. I would refer my friends and colleagues thinking about an MBA in the US to Heidi without any hesitation.
I worked with Heidi ahead of my round 1 applications to four schools. I wanted someone to help me thoughtfully structure the process, plan goals and deadlines, serve as a sounding board and just, in general, help me take a very programmatic approach to the daunting task of applying to business school. I also wanted someone who could help me maximize my strengths while minimizing my weaknesses. I can say with certainty that I got exactly what I was hoping for in working with Heidi. She was organized, detailed, thoughtful, responsive, and helpful in both brainstorming/big ideas, interview prep, and the nitty-gritty of essay writing. She was also considerate and just a generally compassionate person, which was really important for me as I had some difficult backstory to explain in my applications. The hard work and effort were validated as I was accepted at 3/4 schools, including 2 obvious reaches in the M7. I would highly recommend Heidi to any prospective student looking to add more intellectual and procedural horsepower to their application process. It made a huge difference.
I had the pleasure of working with Heidi Granner in the summer and fall of 2020. The process of applying was daunting, but Heidi made the process seamless and enjoyable! I was matched with Heidi early on and was immediately impressed by her credentials and knowledge. After the initial consultation, I did not initiate the application process for several months after our initial consultation however, Heidi was immediately responsive and eager to work with me during a seemingly busy time.
Heidi was an insightful, proactive, and professional consultant. Her admissions knowledge led me to discover the right target schools given my professional background, test scores (lower), and career goals. Originally, I thought my “dream” schools were X, Y & Z, but Heidi steered me in a direction that perfectly aligned with my career goals. I had a lower GMAT/GRE score than I had hoped for, but Heidi helped me navigate these waters well. In the essay portions of the application, she provided honest and thorough feedback and certainly helped me to learn more about myself in the process.
Heidi provided the tools to maximize my chances of acceptance each step of the way. This expertise was invaluable and am forever thankful! With her guidance, I was accepted into a M7 MBA program and my dream school. I would 100% recommend Heidi as an MBA consultant and fortunate we had the opportunity to work with her. She is an amazing mentor and person.
Heidi is a fantastic consultant who helped me turned around my MBA application. I would recommend her to anyone who’s considering working with an application consultant. I am impressed with her level of professionalism, thoughtfulness, and dedication.
For background, I was a reapplicant at the time, after failing to be admitted into the top programs a year earlier. Although I had great GPAs and GMAT scores, I came from a nontraditional background and had difficulty branding myself. So, I was nervous going into the reapplication cycle.
Heidi first carefully reviewed my applications from the previous year and assured me that I had enough qualifications to be accepted into the programs that I applied to. Then she pointed out mistakes that I made and suggested changes to my application strategy to help rebrand myself. As we worked on my application, Heidi was extremely helpful in our brainstorming sessions and made many suggestions on things to highlight and avoid as a reapplicant. She also suggested a creative essay format for one school where the essay prompt is more open-ended. Lastly, Heidi always provided timely, detailed, and accurate feedback on my application essays.
I got into my dream school eventually with Heidi’s help and I couldn’t thank her enough for that!
Heidi is extremely knowledgeable of the MBA process and is a really great partner to work with. She provides excellent feedback and really helps you dig deep and think critically throughout the application process.
As a younger applicant and coming from an overrepresented background, I knew I needed to distinguish myself from the rest of the qualified applicant pool if I wanted to get a coveted spot at any of the M7 schools. Safe to say, Heidi was great at providing excellent guidance in helping me craft a story that would help me stand out.
Heidi is very responsive and her turnaround was very prompt – something I really valued as I was applying on a tight timeline. I can honestly say she was critical in helping me meet deadlines and get quality applications submitted within a quick timeframe. She was really good in helping me highlight my accomplishments and organize my thoughts in a concise manner. Working with Heidi allowed me to feel confident about my application and through the process I felt she genuinely cared about helping me get accepted by my top choice.
In the end, I was accepted by the two M7 schools I applied to and I couldn’t be happier. I cannot recommend Heidi enough to future applicants!
I worked with Heidi during the 2018 Round 1 and 2 admissions cycles and came away with very little to show for both the large time and money investment. While Heidi can seem nice and encouraging, she poorly managed my expectations as a client and at times seemed to put little effort into reviewing my materials. After applying this past year, I was actually able to gain an acceptance but it was not with any of the materials I created with Heidi. I now believe that the consulting services from her and MBAMission added no value and I was scammed.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you ultimately felt unsatisfied with our services at the conclusion of your application efforts. We have designed our consultant–client relationship to be a collaborative partnership, based on frequent and honest communication, and a review of your file shows that your experience included roughly 16 phone conversations, 95 emails, and 60 document reviews. We certainly understand how not reaching a desired goal at the end of a challenging journey can retroactively affect one’s impression of an experience, but our understanding along the way was that you felt you were being adequately counseled and supported–for example,
– You purchased an additional school while working with our consultant, proactively extending and expanding your engagement with our firm. – You remarked to a recommender that “Usually she [your mbaMission consultant] responds faster than that because she’s awesome….” – You regularly thanked your consultant and expressed satisfaction with her work: – “As always, thanks for all the feedback and help!” – “Just wanted to let you know that I thought the interview went well and the practice really paid off.” – “With the Wharton essays coming together nicely …” – “As for the other schools, thanks for the suggestions! Those really do help.” – “See attached for my updated essays based on your feedback. Thanks again for your efforts in reading through it and giving me detailed feedback!” – “See attached for my updated essays, thanks for helping me cut them down!”
We certainly would have adjusted our efforts if we had gleaned during the process that you felt you needed more. We are sure that we can learn from this experience and hope you take us up on our offer to discuss the situation further.
Sincerely, Jeremy Shinewald mbaMission
Heidi is an exceptionally talented consultant, and it was truly a privilege to work with her through my MBA application cycle. To anyone considering an application consultant, I cannot recommend her enough. I’m thrilled to say that, with her help, I’ve been accepted to a dream reach school.
I was a low-GPA and GMAT applicant, and I applied to programs R3-R4 where acceptance probabilities were already low. In order to secure an acceptance offer, I knew I had to differentiate myself through essays, recommendations, networking, and my interview. In short: I needed help conveying the value I would bring to a program because I definitely wasn’t going to be accepted to a top program on my scores alone.
Heidi helped me brand myself as a top-tier candidate. Brainstorming with Heidi was a master class in self-reflection, and she was quick to pull valuable skills, accomplishments, and traits from my life experience and work history that the admissions committees would find valuable. I also needed a consultant to hold me to the highest standard in my essays: she guided me through countless revisions until we produced the absolute best products.
Heidi also provided valuable counsel to my recommenders, and with Heidi’s help, they were best able to quantify my analytic achievements and demonstrated leadership in a manner that showed high career potential with an MBA. Finally, I credit my successful interviews to our mock interviews and preparation.
The MBA application is stressful and challenging on its own. If you hire Heidi, however, you’ll find a valuable and experienced partner to navigate the process and refine your application to its best possible form. I can confidently say I would not be at my dream school today without her help!
I have worked with Heidi Granner for the most part, and Jen Kedrowski helped me with interviews preparations at the end, as Heidi was leaving on maternity leave. As I mentioned, engaging with Mbamission was one of the best decisions I have made during this year. I am impressed with the level of professionalism, passion, and dedication Heidi showed throughout the process, and with way, Jen hopped at the end and made me feel confident at the interviews. Not only did I feel calm and guided throughout the process, but Heidi always found the right words of encouragement – something that tremendously helped mentally to pull through (job complex situations). Heidi was always punctual, professional, and knew exactly how to better structure your responses, allowing the essays to stay personal and authentic, yet answering admission committees questions within the strict word limit. Towards the (happy) end of my journey, Jen helped me to prep for the interviews. She was also amazing in the way she gave me feedback and guidance to further preparation. I had a feeling that the whole process was very well thought through initially, and later tailored to each student – via a timeline, collecting best personal stories, and adjusting the working style. Overall, this was, I think, a life-changing experience for me and application would have been so much more complicated, stressful, lengthier and error-prone.
Waiting to start my next two years at Kellogg, I cannot thank Heidi enough for her support and partnership. As a reapplicant, I really wanted to give my 100% effort this round and decided to use an MBA admissions consulting firm. I applied to seven schools (aggressive plan with no safety school), and got accepted to two schools and waitlisted at one. I can’t be any happier about the results.
I considered six different MBA admissions consulting firms, and mbaMission stood out to me. It provided structured but proven processes that help candidates simplify the entire application process, understand their backgrounds to develop cohesive narratives and identify their strengths and weaknesses. However, talking to Heidi drove my decision home.
Heidi was easy to talk to about my background, not only the past professional experiences but also my unique upbringing. This partnership most importantly helped me identify the unique aspects about my life I didn’t even realize that I had. I think being able to trust Heidi and really reflecting on my personal stories, motives, and values with her truly made the entire experience easier.
Once the main themes were identified, she helped me craft a story in a powerful way to ensure my application was tailored to each school. Each personal statement at least had three rounds of reviews. She was always responsive to my requests and specific needs, and her suggestions were thought-provoking at times. I wouldn’t call myself a writer, but Heidi pushed myself to really present my submissions as best as they could be. As a reapplicant, this process was extremely helpful. Writing a personal statement on your own without much guidance could take 10+ rounds of edits because you are not 100% sure what’s the best way to present yourself. Last year, I got help from a handful of current MBA students in addition to families and friends but I realized their assistance was based on their own experiences only. Having Heidi on my side definitely provided me confidence and helped me understand when my essay was ‘good to go’. Looking back at my personal statements, I am quite proud of them!
The MBA application process is daunting and I have done it two years in a row! This year, I added five more schools to the list but I honestly feel like it was less stressful because of Heidi’s support. Thank you, Heidi, for helping me along the entire way!
I worked with Heidi on three applications for Round 2 cycle, and it was such a pleasant experience. Heidi was recommended to me by my friend who recently graduated from Wharton. Heidi is a patient and understanding person who took care of getting to know me. She played an important role in crafting and developing my story. Heidi also has an intimate knowledge of what schools look for in an application. She helped me think of ways to differentiate myself from my peers.
Heidi is someone who worked around the clock, and went above & beyond what was written in MBAMission’s description. She is extremely responsive in my email questions and prompt in returning essay drafts. She offered to help me think of ways to engage with conversations with other alumni and offered to help me work on providing additional information after I was waitlisted. Because of Heidi’s incredible ideas, advice, coaching, and guidance, I received two offers and one waitlist from the 6 schools I applied to. I am excited for the next chapter in my life at Tuck, and I credit Heidi for her diligence and hard work. Thank you, Heidi!
I was referred to Heidi Granner by a colleague I worked with, who managed to get accepted to his dream program. I wanted someone who knew how to work with someone who has a highly over-represented background (i.e. Asian male in finance) to be able to stand out amongst other excellent applicants.
I would say that it took a lot of consideration before I decided to work alongside an MBA consultant, but I can say for sure that I am glad I did. I will go as far as to say that without Heidi, I do not think that I could have succeeded in getting into my top MBA school – HBS.
The thing is, there are many qualified and over-qualified candidates to get into these top schools. They all have amazing backgrounds and experiences that can definitely make them prime candidates for what these top schools are looking for. The most difficult part about all this, however, is grabbing all these moving parts and shaping them into a limited amount of information you can convey to an MBA admissions committee. You can have also these unique things that have happened to you in your life, but trying to show everything in a jumbled manner is not the way to go. That’s where I think Heidi really played a key role in constructing my story, pulling out key highlights, and showing the admissions committee who I am without completely losing them in the details.
Heidi herself has experience as an admissions member for Chicago Booth, so she definitely knows what these top programs like to see vs. what they don’t like to see. And it’s not that they are looking for a specific form of individual, but rather someone who can CLEARLY show who they are and be proud of what they’ve contributed rather than someone who wants to impress with everything he/she has.
Heidi was instrumental in providing guidance and feedback on how I should think about my own profile and positioning, essay content, and interview practice. She is incredibly responsive (and very fast), and it makes it extremely easy to work with her. She will never leave you hanging amidst this incredibly stressful process, and it definitely gives you a sense of comfort that you are working as a team and that you are not alone.
All in all, Heidi has been a sheer pleasure and more importantly, real help that has translated to concrete success for me. Thank you, Heidi, for working with me through many months of my MBA application journey!
When I decided to apply for business school, I knew I wanted support from someone who is experienced and has a strong professional background. After speaking to several admissions consultants, I chose Heidi and I could not have made a better decision! Right from the start, Heidi was candid and encouraging. She pushed me to brainstorm essay ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of if I had just gone with the most “obvious” themes. Because of our interactions, my essays became much deeper and reflective than what I could have done on my own. As someone who is very organized, I really appreciated Heidi’s timely replies and fast turnarounds. Even though we had a 12-hour time difference, we managed to stay on schedule and I submitted all four of my applications for round 1 on time. Heidi’s support really helped in navigating the business school application and interview process much easier. I highly recommend her!
After speaking with a handful of consultants at both boutique firms and big name companies, I decided to work with Heidi Granner. Other consultants felt I was too “high risk” to take on as a client since I had a low GMAT, GPA, and only 3 years of experience. Heidi was the first to show compassion and confidence in pulling together a great application. She was realistic in telling me which schools to target and worked with me on my essays on an hourly basis. Since I was applying to 3 schools, the hourly option was best for me. Her turnaround was quick and even ahead of schedule. The improvement from my first draft to my final drafts was incredible. Heidi was forthcoming with opinions if an essay lacked substance but always gave me the option to choose whatever topic I chose. I really appreciated her thoughts and took her edits very seriously. I’d highly recommend working with Heidi on your MBA essays.
The Beginning:
Once I decided I wanted to apply to the top full-time MBA programs, I reached out to several highly-rated admissions consulting firms. After numerous conversations and profile evaluations, I chose to work with Heidi. To me, Heidi checked all the boxes and more: MBA grad (Chicago Booth), admissions committee experience (Chicago Booth), impressive background (MBB consulting), and exceptional reviews. But most importantly, during our initial phone call, I felt a strong connection with Heidi and believed she had a genuine interest in me and my goals.
Working with Heidi:
Heidi did an excellent job of turning what can be an overwhelming process into a manageable game plan. She was with me every step of the way. When we were brainstorming for essay content, she left no stone unturned. Her feedback on my essays, resume, and short answers were clear and invaluable. She was also a terrific mock interviewer. Additionally, Heidi suggested certain activities that I believe helped strengthen my candidacy.
For me, the MBA journey has been a time of deep reflection. I felt very comfortable working with Heidi and never had second thoughts about running an idea by her or sharing a story I never told anyone. In fact, she now probably knows me better than most of my friends do!
The Result:
I was accepted to my dream school (M7) and will be attending this fall! I truly believe Heidi helped maximize my chances of getting into an MBA program. Heidi is not only an amazing admissions consultant but also an incredible mentor and person. I feel very fortunate to have worked with her. I highly recommend Heidi!
I am in the unique position of having had the chance to work with Heidi twice on MBA applications (once for full time programs and once for part time programs). Prior to working with Heidi, I had elected to work with a “budget” (but still not cheap) service that did not provide the high level of service I would have expected.
While applying to full time programs a few years ago, I worked with Heidi on an entire three school package and added two additional schools via hourly services. Heidi provided good constructive criticism throughout the process. She was quick to provide responses, positive, and extremely knowledgeable. Over the course of working with Heidi, my essays evolved immensely, creating a cohesive and compelling story. Without Heidi’s guidance, I would have never been as successful in my application process as I was (I was invited to interview at all five schools I applied to, interviewed and was accepted at one, and decided to cancel the remaining interviews). Unfortunately, due to work circumstances I decided not to enroll in a full time program.
Thus, a few years later when I decided to apply to part time programs I did my best to track Heidi down in order to build upon our past experiences and work with her again. Once again, she was prompt and provided good criticism while helping me quickly and efficiently craft new applications from my old and some new material. With her help I was admitted to both programs I applied to.
Overall, Heidi challenged me throughout the process and not only helped my applications evolve but helped me become better as well. Without her assistance, I would have never been able to develop the well-rounded applications I ended up submitting.
Applied to 5 different schools, four among them were part of the elite M7 group. Not a single ding. Invited to interview from all five of them! Now, I am on my way to enroll at my dream school, Chicago Booth! Yes, my decision to work with Heidi turned out to be a killer deal for me. But the problem with quoting just impressive statistics like these is that they are but a snapshot of a nearly year-long process and very often don’t exactly reveal the entire story. Heidi made me realize that success rates alone don’t define a consultant. It is the experience that counts. Working with Heidi was one of the best and most memorable part of my entire application journey and when I say this I am least guided by the end results. It was a realization that hit me barely a couple of weeks after I started working with her. Patient, diligent, considerate, accommodative, and I can go on with more and more adjectives to describe her. But above all, it was her comforting presence and her cheery outlook that made me feel so self-assured. At no point during the entire process did I even have an iota of doubt about the outcome. Being an Indian male with an engineering background, it was supposed to be insanely difficult to differentiate me from the entire applicant pool. But Heidi managed to do exactly that in style. I still remember the very first call we had, when Heidi, after having read my entire biography, zeroed in on seemingly inconsequential stories of my life as must-haves in all my application essays to differentiate myself from the Indian applicant pool. That statement from her stands out as a remarkable prophecy today. And it was not just about creating quality essays. Being a Booth graduate herself and having been a consultant at one of the Big 3 consulting firms, she’s not just an admissions consultant but a perfect mentor to guide you in your post-MBA goals. I can confidently state today that my business education journey started the very same day I started working with Heidi. Long story short, if you are ever looking for a person who would go beyond being just an admissions consultant and stay with you as a friend/mentor/counsellor to guide you and steer you through the rigorous application process then Heidi is the one you should be looking for. I have extremely fond memories of my application journey only because of Heidi and they are mine to cherish forever!
I was incredibly fortunate to work with Heidi Granner on my business school applications. I purchased the start-to-finish package for two schools, which I used to apply to HBS and Stanford GSB. With Heidi’s help, I was accepted to both, and this fall will be attending my dream program, Stanford GSB.
A bit of profile background on me: I am a white male working in finance (two years in IBD followed by two years in PE); 3.9 GPA; 730 GMAT.
Going into the application process, I knew one of my biggest challenges would be distinguishing myself within a highly overrepresented pool of applicants – white males working in finance. Heidi offered invaluable advice that helped me craft my unique story. As with any mbaMission pair, Heidi and I kicked off our partnership with a brainstorming session. I was skeptical going into the session that I would come out of it feeling good about my essay topics (after all, this was our very first call), but two hours later I had outlines for each one. I was blown away by Heidi’s perceptiveness in picking up on common themes across my life and developing them into powerful stories I hadn’t considered.
Heidi is incredibly easy to get along with. Applying for MBA programs is a fairly emotional process – applications force you to dig deep and show a vulnerable side of yourself on paper. Heidi’s friendly and approachable demeanor made this process much more comfortable. She was easy to open up to, which allowed me to probe topics I otherwise wouldn’t have considered and write about myself and my goals in an honest way.
Heidi’s feedback on my essays and resume was always prompt and clear, allowing me to efficiently edit my materials throughout the process. We stuck to each deadline she set, and she graciously made herself available for ad hoc calls. In what can often be a hectic and stressful process, I never once felt like I couldn’t rely on Heidi to provide timely, thoughtful feedback.
All of this is to say that you will get far more than your money’s worth working with Heidi. She was an invaluable guide and sounding board to me. While I’m happy to be done with the application process, I will truly miss our partnership together, and I couldn’t have accomplished what I did without her. I cannot recommend Heidi highly enough!
Working with Heidi was a great experience all around. I knew my statistics were strong enough to get me into at least one of my target schools, but the final piece I needed was to strongly tell my story via essays, online applications, and short answer questions. Story telling is definitely not one of my strengths, but through phone conversations and feedback on the different drafts of my essays, Heidi got to know me very well and very effectively helped me strengthen the written portions of my applications. Heidi was extremely prompt in responding to my emails with quick questions, as well as returning the multiple drafts of my essays. I can happily say that I will be attending one of my target programs, and much of the credit belongs to Heidi’s assistance.
Working with Heidi was a phenomenal experience. Through the hourly service package, Heidi and I were able to prioritize our time to improve the areas of my application in order to gain admission into the top 25 business schools. She helped me highlight my accomplishments and prepare an application that would show who I am as a person. Heidi reviewed all my essays and resume, and her feedback highlighted the positives while giving constructive feedback. She pushed me to think about my experiences and helped me present them in the logical way. In addition, she pushed me as a writer and I learned to better articulate and show my story. I submitted 5 applications during the round 2 deadline. I was invited to interview with all 5 of the schools. Once I received the interview notifications, Heidi helped me prepare for my interviews through a mock Skype interview. Ultimately, I was admitted into two schools, waitlisted at two schools, and denied admission into one. Best of all, one of the schools I was admitted to was my first choice, and I will be attending that school in the fall. Heidi was truly wonderful to work with and I highly recommend her! Thank you for all of your help Heidi!
