Given your age and work experience, I honestly wonder if it would be best for you to hang in at your current job and apply in one or two years. I think you could do better than a 680 on the GMAT. Getting to 700 or higher should not be a problem if you study for the exam. A 700+ score would dramatically expand your options. You have a fascinating narrative plus experience in an industry and job that few applicants can bring to an MBA program. Given your goals, I think Carnegie Mellon, MIT Sloan, Georgia Tech or Purdue would be excellent options for you.
