The Weatherhead School is housed in one of the most unique educational buildings in the world, a virtual museum of modern architecture. The full-time MBA is a four-semester program. The curriculum—regardless of concentration—features on-going efforts in design management, sustainable business, social entrepreneurship, and design thinking. These academic themes, entitled Manage by Designing and Sustainable Enterprise, help students break from the norm of viewing every challenge through the same spreadsheet-based prism.

Aside from the core curriculum, a distinctive feature of the first-year experience is the Top Management Dialogues series. In this series, students work with teams of top executives to define and deal with real problems currently facing their organizations. In the second year of our program, students are exposed to Manage by Designing and Sustainable Enterprise. As part of the integrated MBA curriculum, students explore these and other topics via a collection of year-long elective courses that emphasize experiential learning.

Latest Up-to-Date MBA Rankings:

Poets&Quants (2012): 57

BusinessWeek (2012): NR

Forbes (2011): 49

U.S. News & World Report (2012): 52

Financial Times (2012): NR

The Economist (2012): 100 (Global), 47 (U.S.)

Rankings Analysis: The Weatherhead School of Management has had some leadership problems in recent years. Nonetheless, the school managed to rise two spots in the Poets&Quants’ 2012 composite ranking to place 57th from 59th in 2011, largely based on much more favorable scores from U.S. News and Forbes.

The good news first: The school’s U.S. News rank in 2012 jumped to 52, some 23 places from 75th. Forbes, which ranks on the basis of return-on-investment, ranked Weatherhead 49th best in the U.S. in 2011, up from 62 in 2009. Quite an improvement.

The bad news? Both BusinessWeek and The Financial Times did not rank the school, even though Weatherhead had made earlier lists by those two publications. The Economist, which hadn’t ranked the school earlier, came to the rescue, though. Weatherhead snuck in at the tail end of The Economist’s global 100 ranking with a rank of 100.
