Better get your materials together — the MBA deadlines for admission to one of New York City’s top business schools are approaching fast. New York University Stern School of Business today (June 14) announced its application deadlines for its full-time MBA, Focused 1-year MBA, Andre Koo Technology and Entrepreneurship MBA, and Fashion & Luxury MBA programs, and the cutoffs are among the earliest at top U.S. schools. But the good news is, depending on your situation you may not have to take the Graduate Management Admission Test or any other entrance exam, as Stern also announced the continuation of its waiver policy. NO CHANGES TO ‘CHANGE’ ESSAY NYU Stern’s Lisa Rios The Stern School’s Round 1 deadline is September 15, 2022, with rolling interview, waitlist, or denial notifications coming no later than December 1. Its Round 2 deadline is one month later, on October 15 — among the earliest so far announced at top U.S. B-schools — with interview notifications sent out by New Year’s Day 2023. Stern’s Round 3 deadline is set for January 15, 2023, with interview notifications by April 1, while its fourth deadline is March 15, with interview notifications June 1. However, the fourth deadline for the Focused MBA for U.S. citizens and permanent residents is earlier, on February 15, 2023, with notifications by April 1. All admission decisions will be made on a rolling basis. Stern has not made any changes to its application components or essays this year, keeping what it calls “an applicant-centric focus and leveraging Stern’s brand call to action around ‘Change.’” Inspired by Stern’s brand call to action — “Change. Dare it. Dream it. Drive it.” — that launched in November 2019, the essay prompt for applicants is: “In today’s global business environment, the only constant is change. Using NYU Stern’s brand call to action, we want to know how you view change. Change: _____ it. Fill in the blank with a word of your choice. Why does this word resonate with you? How will you embrace your own personal tagline while at Stern? Examples: “Change: Dare it. “Change: Dream it. “Change: Drive it. “Change: Empower it. “Change: Manifest it. “Change: [Any word of your choice.]” Stern also will continue to require its “Pick Six” photo and image personal essay in the new application cycle. EXAM WAIVERS WILL AGAIN BE AVAILABLE Test waivers will continue to be available this cycle for applicants who are not able to prepare for or take a standardized test, the school announced, as long as applicants are able to demonstrate “academic readiness” without a standardized test score. Readiness can be demonstrated through “strong analytical or quantitative undergraduate or graduate majors, professional work experience, certifications, etc.,” the school says. Lisa Rios, assistant dean of MBA admissions, offers three tips for applicants: “Explore. We encourage people from all different educational and professional backgrounds from around the world to explore our MBA programs. Looking to pivot careers? Check out the two-year Full-time MBA program that typically includes a summer internship. Committed to a career in tech, or fashion, beauty, and luxury? Stern’s one-year Focused MBA programs with experiential learning built into the curriculum might be a great fit. Talk to students. Meet us on the road. Attend a virtual event! “Be genuine. Community is a hallmark of the Stern MBA experience, and we are looking to get to know the real you! Use the Pick Six personal expression essay and other aspects of the application to show us your passions and what is most important to you. “How will you embrace change? The world needs future leaders who are agile and ready to drive change, likely without a roadmap. Stern is the place where you will learn to make change your ally, through coursework, Stern Solutions experiential projects with companies, and more. How will you embrace change?” Learn more about NYU Stern’s MBA essays here. Go to the main MBA application page here. DON’T MISS 2022-2023 MBA APPLICATION DEADLINES AT TOP SCHOOLS
