What word best describes the UC Riverside MBA students and alumni you’ve met so far?
Ambitious. The peers I have interacted with so far are driven, determined, and eager to excel in their academic pursuits and professional endeavors. They exhibit a strong motivation to make a significant impact in their respective fields, which is evident in their dedication to their studies and their active involvement in extracurricular activities. This ambition is likely to serve them well in their future careers and contribute to their overall success. The diverse international background of the students also creates a rich and inclusive environment at UCR. I’ve personally felt warmly welcomed, and the openness to various perspectives and cultures has enriched my experience.

Aside from classmates, what was the key part of UC Riverside’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you?
The meticulous design of UC Riverside’s MBA curriculum greatly influenced my decision to choose this business school. The program offers a remarkable level of flexibility, allowing students to select from seven distinct concentrations spanning various functional areas. This empowers me to craft a personalized MBA experience that aligns precisely with my professional aspirations, personal passions, and desired career trajectory. What sets this apart is that each of these concentrations presents at least two distinct career paths, offering a comprehensive range of options. This level of customization was a decisive factor for me in choosing UCR’s MBA program.

What course, club or activity have you enjoyed the most so far at UC Riverside?
I’ve found the Financial Accounting course to be particularly engaging and enjoyable. With a solid background in finance, I’m able to quickly grasp the concepts and principles taught in the course. This has made it easier for me to navigate the material and understand financial accounting comprehensively. A strong foundation in this area is essential for making informed financial decisions, and I’m eager to continue exploring and applying these concepts in my studies and future career endeavors.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far:
Transitioning from an engineering background to pursue a Master of Science in corporate finance at the University College Cork, Ireland, was a pivotal decision and marked a significant shift in my career trajectory. In the initial stages, I grappled with self-doubt, concerned about the transition from engineering to the complexities of corporate finance. Fellow students voiced similar apprehensions, suggesting that without a prior undergraduate degree in business, I might face challenges in the coursework. But, I embraced the challenges and viewed them as an opportunity for personal growth and a chance to prove myself. I committed wholeheartedly to bridging the gap in my business knowledge, immersing myself in a sea of financial theories and industry practices.

This dedication and hard work culminated in achieving first-class honors, a testament to my determination and adaptability. In a cohort of 65, I proudly emerged in the top 10%. Within just six months after graduating, I seized an invaluable opportunity to contribute to BNY Mellon. As I took my place within this financial juggernaut, I wasn’t just there to fill a role; I was there to shine. With unwavering dedication, I seamlessly navigated the intricacies of the financial world, contributing significantly to BNY Mellon’s continued success. My adaptability and unwavering commitment to excellence weren’t just evident; they were celebrated.

Describe your biggest accomplishment as an MBA student so far:
One of my most notable achievements as an MBA student is earning the distinction of a Dean’s Scholar, accompanied by a Merit Scholarship at UCR. This recognition underscores my unwavering commitment to academic excellence and affirms the diligent efforts I’ve poured into my studies. Additionally, being appointed to the Student Affairs Committee within the AGSM Student Association has been another noteworthy milestone. This role has granted me the privilege of actively contributing to the university’s community by advocating for the interests and concerns of my fellow graduate students. I take great pride in this position as it perfectly aligns with my aspiration to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the university.

What is your class’s favorite hangout away from school? Why do you gather there?
Our preferred spot for unwinding outside of school is The Getaway Café. It has become a go-to location and a hub where I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know many of my friends better. This vibrant space offers an array of activities, from lively pool games to laid-back moments spent in great company. The Getaway Café sets the stage for enjoyable and memorable leisure time.

What led you to pursue an MBA at this point and what do you hope to do after graduation?
I’m pursuing an MBA at this point in my career journey to further refine my skills and knowledge in finance, particularly in portfolio management. My experience as a portfolio analyst at BNY Mellon gave me valuable insights into the intricacies of managing portfolios and ignited my passion for this field. I recognized that obtaining an MBA would not only deepen my understanding but also equip me with a broader strategic perspective.

After graduation, my primary objective is to transition into a role as a portfolio manager. I aim to apply my refined skill set to manage and optimize investment portfolios effectively. Portfolio management’s dynamic and challenging nature excites me, and I’m eager to contribute my expertise to a respected financial institution. I see this career path as an opportunity to have a tangible impact on the world of business.
