In the second half of the year, you will be completing an Academy devoted to areas like Marketing, Finance, Operations, Digital Enterprises and more. Which Academy interests you the most and why? The Capital Markets Academy interests me the most. I have an accounting background looking to make a career switch to finance and investment banking. I understood that I need to learn a great deal about financial modeling and valuation, while also putting in the work networking and preparing for interviews. The Capital Markets Academy offers all the tools and resources necessary to make my career switch possible. After speaking with the head of the academy, Eric Crigler, as well as second-year students and alumni who leveraged the academy to pivot to investment banking, I felt extremely comfortable joining the Capital Markets Academy.

Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of Indiana Kelley’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? Two key parts of Indiana Kelley’s MBA program that led me to choose it as my home for the next two years are the location of the school and the extensive alumni network. Coming from New York, I am used to a concrete jungle (literally). Bloomington is a beautiful Midwestern city. The BIG10 culture and vibrant college town, combined with the historic academic buildings and beautiful green foliage all over campus, were a big selling point for me. I always tell people that coming to the Midwest has allowed me to get a breath of fresh air while pursuing my career switch. Regarding the alumni network, Kelley has over 100,000 alumni worldwide, ranging across all industries. Everybody who I’ve met has been kind, encouraging, and willing to do whatever they possibly can to help steer me in the right direction as I aim to achieve my goals.

What course, club or activity excites you the most at Indiana Kelley? There are two clubs at IU that I’m really looking forward to being a part of. The first is the MBA Investment Club, which will give me the opportunity to collaborate with my classmates and discuss the current state of the U.S. and global economy. The second club that I’m really looking forward to being a part of is the MBA Golf Club. I am competitive person who grew up playing Ice Hockey, and during COVID, I fell in love with the sport of golf. IU is home to The Pfau Course, which is nationally ranked as one of the nicest — and toughest — golf courses in the U.S.

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: To date, aside from being admitted into the Kelley School of Business MBA Class of 2025, the biggest accomplishment of my career is passing the Uniform CPA Exam. Studying for all four parts of the test while working full time was demanding and required a lot of time, effort, and commitment. Looking back on this experience, I learned a lot about myself and how I work though challenging situations.

What do you hope to do after graduation (at this point)? After graduation, I plan on moving back to New York City and working at an Investment Bank. I look forward to working on various deal types within the healthcare industry.

What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into Indiana Kelley’s MBA program? My piece of advice for potential applicants who are looking to gain admission into Indiana Kelley’s MBA program would be to take a holistic approach to the application process and be authentic. While GMAT scores carry a ton of weight, I would say that Kelley’s admission team places a strong emphasis on the type of person you are and your core values. For me, the most rewarding part of my application process was getting involved in community service initiatives in the NYC area. It enabled me to find something that I was passionate about, and it certainly aligned with the Kelley culture. The program is looking for individuals who are not only willing to work hard in the classroom, but also willing to put the time in to build meaningful relationships with their community, peers, professors, and alumni.
