NYU Stern Has A Famous New Student: Barron Trump

Barron Trump, the youngest child of former President Donald Trump, is one of around 9,400 admits to New York University’s Class of 2028

NYU Stern School of Business has a famous new student: Barron Trump, the 18-year-old son of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The elder Trump, who famously attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania as an undergrad in the 1960s, revealed his youngest son’s choice of school in an interview Wednesday with the Daily Mail, a UK newspaper.

“He was accepted to a lot of colleges,” Trump said in the interview. “We liked NYU. I’ve known NYU for a long time. It’s a very high-quality place. He liked it.”

A HARD SCHOOL TO GET INTO

Barron has reportedly been spotted on NYU’s campus already. The younger Trump has largely avoided media attention and scrutiny, in large part because he was a minor during the four years of his father’s presidency. He has avoided any political role in the elder Trump’s current campaign to return to the White House.

NYU is not an easy school to get into. It received approximately 118,000 applications to join the Class of 2028 this fall, and made offers of admission to around 8%, or 9,400. Tuition, minus room and board, is more than $60K.

“NYU’s admitted class of 2028 is made up of students who represent the best of us,” said Jonathan Williams, associate vice president of undergraduate admissions, pre-college access and pathways, in April. “Throughout their high school journey, these remarkable young individuals hail from various corners of the United States and the globe. They have proven themselves to be exemplary bridge-builders, striving to connect diverse perspectives and foster understanding.

“Their unwavering perseverance in the face of myriad challenges showcases their dedication to creating a better world — together. They are shining examples of good listeners, global citizens, and future leaders. Their presence will undoubtedly enrich the NYU community and contribute to a brighter future for all.”

WHARTON, DAD’S ALMA MATER, WAS CONSIDERED FOR BARRON

Total cost for four years at the Stern School, inclusive of room, board and fees, is more than $350K, according to P&Q data for the Class of 2027. The B-school has a lower acceptance rate than NYU overall, at 5%, with admits’ average SAT score 1,545, average ACT score 35, and average high school GPA 4.1. Seventy-one percent of the Class of 2027 were among the top 10% of students in their high school.

The Stern School is ranked 9th in Poets&Quants‘ most recent ranking of business undergraduate programs. However, Wharton, which Donald Trump and three of his four siblings attended, is ranked No. 1.

“He’s a very high-aptitude child but he’s no longer a child,” Trump told the Daily Mail about Barron. “He’s just passed into something beyond child-dom. He’s he’s doing great.

“I went to Wharton, and that was certainly one that we were considering. We didn’t do that. … We went for Stern.”
