Fun Fact: I’m a big music fan, especially bands from the 60s and 70s, as well as more recent groups like Radiohead, and classical music. I also practice Tai Chi.

If I wasn’t teaching, my dream job would be: Musician

Best part of the job: The freedom I have to pursue interesting ideas and be perpetually learning. The view from my office is great, too.

Worst part of the job: Some administrative meetings can be very boring.

Students Say:

“Professor Shanken is a world renowned researcher on the investments/capital markets side of finance; however, he also spends time teaching the introductory finance course. He is a thought provoking and challenging professor who helps students understand how the theoretical concepts from his research apply to real world applications; and he backs this up with examples from his current consulting projects.  Additionally, while it is impressive to see Professor Shanken quoted throughout the textbook and other publications, what makes him standout is his laid-back style, approachability, and caring attitude.” — Matthew Long – Goizueta 2012
