Three promotions in three years! That is quite an achievement. So is a 4.0 in engineering. Your 720 GMAT is well above the 687 class average at Tepper. So what could get you rejected? Three promotions in three years! That is quite an achievement. So is a 4.0 in engineering. Your 720 GMAT is well above the 687 class average at Tepper. So what could get you rejected? It’s worth noting that you are in the most over-represented part of the MBA applicant pool as a male, Indian software engineer. You are at a startup, rather than a well-known company with highly selective employment practices. And you earned your undergraduate degree from a university that is ranked between 601 and 800 in the world. Now, there’s nothing wrong with any of those factors. The problem occurs when other male Indian engineers apply to Tepper from more prestigious universities and employers. So while you are more than qualified to attend Tepper and do well there, the school might very well “like” or “prefer” other similiar candidates to you. So it then comes down to your extras which are quite strong and should be emphasized in your application. I do like the MBA programs you are considering and believe you can fulfill your dream to land a job in product management from any of those schools. I am fairly certain that you’ll get a couple of admits, though less sure about Tepper given the above issues. Good luck to you. Hope you can surmount the odds and get an acceptance from Carnegie Mellon.
