Hi Mr. Hopeful NY Stock Exchange, It’s not easy pulling yourself up by the bootstraps but it looks like you’re doing it! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. Hi Mr. Hopeful NY Stock Exchange, It’s not easy pulling yourself up by the bootstraps but it looks like you’re doing it! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I think there are a lot of strengths in your profile – first gen college grad, robust academics (GPA and GMAT, graduating top of your department), solid career trajectory, as well as community leadership through your volunteering for child education and poverty alleviation programs. In addition, b-schools don’t get enough strong candidates from Nigeria, so they would certainly find your profile very interesting. As you put your apps together, be sure to articulate why MBA. Given your background, what specific skills are you seeking to pivot from Risk to Investment Banking? And why Banking? What do you see yourself doing long-term (say 10-15 years down the road)? Is Investment Banking a stepping stone to something else? Eg. CFO role? If so, why are you passionate about doing that? As well, if you can weave in your personal stories in a compelling way, it would help your application stand out from the crowd and make your profile even more attractive to Cornell. If you wish to discuss your profile in further detail, feel free to schedule a consultation with us. Wishing you the best in your MBA journey!
