American University’s Kogod School of Business MBA is designed to help students develop leadership skills that lead to meaningful, positive change. The business school is located on American University’s main campus, described as a beautiful and peaceful arboretum in the heart of Washington, DC. Kogod has a unique opportunity to deliver an MBA in Washington, DC, exposing students to the vibrant international community and market from day one. DC also offers diverse networking, internship, and job opportunities in all areas of business.

This year, Kogod ranked No. 13 overall of the Full-time MBAs in International Business by the US News & World Report. “The focus on experiential learning initiatives coupled with a student-centric strategy were both instrumental elements for this recognition.” says Ayman Omar, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Student Services in response to their ranking.

The MBA has been around for some time now, graduating its first class in 1954 and intaking an intimate class of just 12 students this year. Although small, the cohort is a diverse, close-knit community that becomes each student’s network, support system and an integral part of their education.

The 49 credit Full-time program is typically completed in 21 months, 49 credits, with the majority of core courses taken in the first year. Their STEM-designated MBA is designed to develop the management, technical, and business leadership skills students need to thrive in the US economy. The STEM designation allows international students to apply for a 24-month extension of their Optical Practical Training, granting them the ability to work in the US for up to three years.

Two of the most pivotal, required, components of the curriculum are the Global Project Experience and the Capstone Project. In the Global Project Experience, students participate in an applied project with a global client – participating in workshops and traveling to the client site. The Capstone Project places students in real-world situations using various tools such as case studies, simulations, and consulting projects.

Popular extracurricular engagement opportunities at Kogod include and are not limited to case competitions, conferences and business leadership luncheons.
