Founded in 1902, Birmingham University is one of the original pioneers – both the oldest B-School in England and the first to offer a business degree. As such, the city itself has a rich history as part of the center of the industrial revolution with about 42% diversity within the city’s population. The B-School is located within the multi-million-dollar University House at the University of Birmingham Edgbaston Campus. The University House combines the original 1908 building with a modern learning complex which sits upon 2.75 acres of green gardens. The rest of the university is on 250 acres of parkland and offers a safe, friendly green space for students. For as long as it has existed, the B-School has been on a mission to deliver world-class material that provides the insight, ambition and skills to shape advanced and sustainable business strategies. Aside from the campus in Birmingham, the B-school also has campuses in Dubai and Singapore, which attracts students from 106 countries. As could be expected, their international faculty provides guidance, support, and work experience opportunities based on individual interest. Birmingham attracts an array of outstanding and diverse faculty, and among them is Veselina Stoyanova, Associate Professor in Strategy & International Business whom Poets&Quants spoke to earlier this year. “Professor Stoyanova is by far the most energetic and authentic professor that I had during my MBA studies. I took the EML course with her in Singapore. I remember being so impressed by how young and smart she is. She is the youngest female MBA professor teaching at the MBA program, but for me, definitely one of the most enthusiastic and intellectually motivating academics I know,” says a Birmingham MBA student. The B-School has a dedicated careers team that offers services to MBAs during and past graduation. They offer workshops, alumni and employer events, and 1-to-1 consultations. The program spans 12 months, with a start date in September. MBAs must take 10 required core business courses including Developing Strategy, Human Resource Management, and Responsible Business with an optional 6 courses, like their Global Marketing Leadership, Entrepreneurial Finance, and International Business Experience depending on their desires and interests. “I wanted to invest in myself, I wanted to extend my knowledge.” says MBA Sarah Pook. She chose the school because of its reputation within the UK and globally. “The MBA has helped me in several ways. I’ve grown in confidence in regard to the workplace. My business knowledge has grown significantly, and I can work with departments a lot more effectively. I strongly believe that the MBA can really help you create a lot of opportunities.”
