The Penn State Smeal College of Business MBA has developed its program to support principled leadership, functional expertise, integrated perspective, and a global perspective. These principles have contributed to an intimate and comprehensive MBA that boasts an expansive alumni network of over 705,000.
“Penn State had the three things I wanted most in an MBA program: a supportive community, a huge alumni network, and an excellent placement record,” says Benedetta Piva, founder and CEO of TEDxVicenza and senior instock manager for Amazon who earned her MBA from the Smeal College in 2019.
With 92% percent of graduates between 2017-2019 receiving full-time offers within three months of graduation, it’s clear that the Smeal and Penn State brands have a lot to offer full-time MBA students.
The two-year program opens with a pre-semester session of online onboarding tasks and assignments from March through August. To begin the school year, students are introduced to an intensive week-long orientation. Following is a one-week concentration intensive giving students a rundown of available concentrations. To maximize the flexibility of its MBA, Smeal provides students with a selection of 16 options, which are brief and targeted studies in a particular area of interest. Students will often take up two concentrations and two or three options.
A hallmark of Smeal’s MBA program is its Communication Skills for Leaders course that spans the entire first year. During it, students learn to assert themselves and their ideas within a business context.
Smeal’s second year focuses on elective coursework that aligns with its concentrations and options. Students also partake in a global immersion experience, which allows them to learn about international business practices and retain a greater understanding of diverse cultures.
