School Data

The Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s mission is to develop adaptive leaders who create sustainable solutions, deliver globally responsible impact, and conduct transformative research at the intersection of business, technology, and people — and they’ve been doing this since graduating their first class in MBA class in 1973.

WPI’s fully online MBA welcomed a total of 36 students this year, and although students aren’t on-campus physically, they still have access to funding to attend conferences and competitions. Small cohorts mean students make meaningful connections, strengthening their professional network long after they graduate.

The STEM MBA from WPI Business School invites students to “Go further,” drawing on the university’s strengths in technology, engineering, and science to prepare innovative and well-rounded leaders ready to make an impact in a complex business world.

This 36-credit program features an integrative curriculum based on fundamental business disciplines and takes a minimum of two years to complete. Better yet, the schedule is asynchronous, so students can balance school family and work all at once.

The program was relaunched in Fall 2021 and includes five foundation courses, two electives, a 3-course specialty where students choose from over 20 options or create their own custom specialty, pre-capstone, and capstone. WPI MBAs can progress through the program by taking either one or two courses at a time.

Students can specialize in one of 21 areas, including Applied Analytics, Information Systems Design, Product Management and Supply Chain Management.

“One of the best aspects of WPI’s MBA is the specialty eBadge where students can choose from a variety of options to tailor the MBA to their career. Another is how bonded the students become with their classmates despite the program being online. Coming from so many different industries, students tend to learn as much from their classmates as they do from their faculty,” says Sandy Wellinghoff, MBA Director.
