Most Recent Employer and Job Title: Baxter BioPharma Solutions, Quality Lab Associate In the second half of the year, you will be completing an Academy devoted to areas like Marketing, Finance, Operations, Digital Enterprises and more. Which Academy interests you the most and why? The Strategic Finance Academy interests me the most as I look to pivot my career into corporate finance. The years of industry expertise that the academy director brings to the table are especially exciting for me as someone who has a science background instead of a finance one. Having someone who will be able to help facilitate connections within the business world and advise me as I work to build a career is of the utmost importance to me. The projects that we will be doing through the academy will also help me develop and practice my skills before beginning my internship, which will serve to boost my confidence and allow me to check in with myself on what skills I may need to bolster before starting my work in the summer. Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of Indiana Kelley’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? I have a slightly unique experience because I went to Indiana University for my undergraduate degree. I fell in love with the school and the town of Bloomington during my undergrad years and continued to live and work in Bloomington after graduating. Kelley was the only business school I applied to this year because I knew that it was where I wanted to be. Coming home to Indiana University for graduate school was absolutely the right choice. What course, club or activity excites you the most at Indiana Kelley? I am most excited about joining the Healthcare Club. Getting the opportunity to focus on an industry that I am particularly interested in and meet with other people that share the excitement I do about it is something I eagerly look forward to doing. The events that they hold will allow me to network with other healthcare focused individuals who will be able to teach me even more about the healthcare industry. Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: While working at Baxter, I was able to spearhead development and testing for a stability study on some of our reference standards being used. Through the work, standard operating procedures were amended with new expiration dates, saving analysts time when testing and generating savings upwards of $47,000 per year in materials used. What do you hope to do after graduation (at this point)? I hope to work for a pharmaceutical or healthcare company doing financial planning and analysis. Being able to combine my scientific background with the education I am receiving at Kelley is very important to me. It is important to me that the work I am doing is able to help others, and by working for companies in these industries, I will be able to continue doing that. What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into Indiana Kelley’s MBA program? Reach out to students currently or previously in the Kelley MBA program. I was able to meet with 1st year students and learn about their experiences in Kelley and their experiences throughout the application process. This helped me to focus on what I needed to improve on in my application and allowed me an insight into the program itself that you might not be able to get by just reading about Kelley online.
