I received my B.A. in History from UCLA where I was on the rowing team. Post-grad, I went into sales for a large tech company and earned three promotions in 18 months. My third promotion was as a Sales Engineer which is a hybrid sales/engineering role. I want to get an MBA to gain skills in financial modeling and go-to-market strategy.

Well, I’m impressed, particularly by your three promotions in 18 months and your recruitment as a collegiate athlete. Plus, you are a first-generation college grad which means you didn’t have the benefit of sitting at a dining table at night with highly education professionals. Your GMAT is terrific, even if your grades in history are just a tad under the class average for Stanford. So I think a lot of this swings on your ability to execute a really strong application and essays. You didn’t mention any extras and they would be very important to you at Stanford where the Adcoms are looking for people who do things beyond themselves by helping others. Your long-term post-MBA goal shows your heart is in the right place …

Your GMAT is terrific, even if your grades in history are just a tad under the class average for Stanford. You didn’t mention any extras and they would be very important to you at Stanford where the Adcoms are looking for people who do things beyond themselves by helping others. Your long-term post-MBA goal shows your heart is in the right place for the GSB but I don’t see early evidence of that in your life so far–unless you just didn’t cover that in the spare profile here. I do think you’ll get into at least two of the three other schools to which you are applying, including UCLA and USC. And if you have extras that fulfill the goal of showing that you care about other people that would substantially increase your odds at Stanford which, as you know, as the lowest admit rate of any prestige MBA program in the world.
