Hi Mr. Infra-Finance, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. Sounds like you have done swimmingly well in your career so far – sorry, I love a pun! And seriously your ability to compete at the National level and achieve a strong GPA in chemical engineering is a true testament to your hard work and ability to manage multiple priorities – which will be very attractive to Columbia and the other schools on your list. I think your work experiences across investment and renewables is interesting and will help you bring a unique perspective to the classroom. I work with a lot of engineers and financial professionals, but fewer that have both experience. And I can really see your engineering knowledge helping on the infrastructure finance – being able to understand the technical speak. It sounds like you’ve got strong involvement post-MBA as well as international experience throughout the industry which will show you will be an involved and valuable student. I would want to dig deeper into what type of impact you want to make ‘in the space’ and why specifically IB or PE is going to help you get there. This story will be important to help you stand out compared to other engineers transitioning to finance. What has driven you personally to make an impact here. I would also want to understand your GMAT journey so far. For the schools you are looking at – as a male engineer or finance person, your GMAT will be something to overcome. If you could take it again and get your score up in line with the averages of these schools, I think it would increase your chances. My current assessment is based upon your current GMAT – and I think it would increase with a 20-30 point increase. If you haven’t connected with ROMBA yet – reach out and do so!
