I was hired on a greenfiled startup project and grew an analytical chemistry group to 21 personnel and implemented state-of-the-art chemistry techniques. I was an individual contributor on a multi-functional team that systematically discovered and implemented process improvements to conserve $1,800,000+ of inventory annually
Short-term, I’m pursuing an MBA to round out gaps in my education by learning the core fundamentals of business and to become a more effective leader within my current organization. My long-term vision is to cofound a company that advances forward an emerging technology in biotech or in an area of hybridized business opportunities.

I like that you have work experience in two very different worlds: a Fortune 500 company and a startup. I also like your big wins and the fact that you have some leadership chops in increasing the size of your analytical chemistry group to 21 staffers. Let me point out the most obvious flaws in your candidacy: It’s your 620 GMAT score which is 46 points below the latest class average for Indiana Kelley and your 3.17 GPA which is also below the Kelley average of 3.33. My tough love advice here is to retake the test and get a score that is at or slightly above Kelley’s average. I think that would pretty much insure an admit in an MBA program that would really help your professional career.
It sounds like you have very impactful work experience – I really like your pharma background and as John pointed out, your blend of F500 and startup experience. You have solid extracurriculars as well – I actually worked with someone this past year who was the treasurer for his condo association as well 🙂 The big weak spot I see is GMAT, as it is below Kelley’s average and also, a higher score is needed to offset your lower GPA. So I’d definitely recommend retaking. Additionally, are you open to part-time or executive programs? They are a bit less stringent about GMAT scores, and with your 9 years of work experience full-time could be a little tougher (the average # years of …
