Hi Ms. Healthcare Policy Consultant, this is Julie-Anne Heafey from mbaMission. Hmmmm….I can’t quite tell the timing on your applications and this is pretty late in the game to be a candidate at Columbia, which uses rolling admissions and fills the class over the year. Have you already applied to these schools and thus await your news? If that’s the case, I’m afraid I think your likelihood is not high; although you have some great leadership both on the job and in your ECs, you’re up against dwindling availability, while applying from a well-represented category (consulting) with lower-than-average stats in a very difficult application year. If you *haven’t* actually applied yet, you can boost your chances a little (maybe to 10%) …

If you *haven’t* actually applied yet, you can boost your chances a little (maybe to 10%) if you apply early decision and execute very well, but I would encourage you to retake the GMAT to obtain a 730+ or switch to the EA. If you manage to do THAT, your odds get much more promising!! Good luck, I am rooting for you!
Ms. Healthcare Policy Consultant – Thanks for posting your profile. Susan here from Stratus. Every year I work with several candidates from the healthcare space or looking to get into the healthcare space. Your unique background with a focus on policy will make your perspective valued in an MBA classroom.
For the purposes of this assessment, I am assuming that you will be applying this fall. If CBS is truly your top choice, you should apply in the binding ED round. While your overall profile is very strong, CBS definitely likes to see stronger GMAT scores. If you aren’t able to increase your test score, I think you have a good shot at Duke Fuqua (the HSM program would be a fantastic fit and many grads go into consulting), Ross (solid consulting placement and good healthcare resources) and Yale (great resources at the intersection of policy and business though perhaps fewer grads going into consulting). You might want to take a look at UCLA and Cornell.
Wishing you all the best!
