About the Program

About the programme

Imperial’s Global Online MBA is a two-year, part-time programme that is delivered in an online format, focusing on innovative thinking and new technology to deliver a practical curriculum.

You will experience our state-of-the-art online learning platform, The Hub, that provides you convenient access to all programme materials and connects you with your peers and tutors.

Strengthen your foundation in business

The programme consists of pre-study modules, core modules and electives which will allow you to build your foundation in business while tailoring your learning to specialise in an area of interest to you.

Core modules build rapidly on your previous experience while introducing new and challenging disciplines. You will cover the general functions of management, explore essential business topics and acquire the skills to be an effective and inspiring leader in whatever career you choose.

Electives provide you with the opportunity to specialise in an area of interest or to explore new avenues. The Global Online MBA elective portfolio consists of 18 online modules across several subject areas which have been newly developed for online learning, plus you can choose to take up to two face-to-face electives from our on-campus portfolio.

The programme also contains key classroom learning experiences, both on our London campus and in global locations. These include your induction week, an optional Global Experience Week and other global study opportunities, and the Capstone, which allow you to build your global network, reinforce strong connections within your cohort and apply knowledge gained from your programme.

Learning reimagined

Our modules are delivered by the same core faculty who also teach on our residential MBA programmes. But we haven’t simply rehashed the MBA content for online delivery. The MBA syllabus has been carefully adapted to allow for the most effective delivery in an online format, without dulling down any of the learning. Each module – regularly updated by faculty – provides you with a solid grounding in business theory and practice.

The emphasis is on applied learning, giving you a chance to test your understanding through case studies and simulations.

“It is important that our Global Online MBA doesn’t stand still but evolves to reflect what happens in the real world,” says Academic Director of the Imperial MBA, Markus Perkmann. “Recently, we have been adding new electives in business and marketing analytics, as well as leadership and sustainable business strategy”.

Investing for the future with an online format

We’ve invested heavily to create our bespoke online learning technology, The Hub, that we use on the Global Online MBA and continually refine this technology to ensure that we deliver a world-class online MBA experience.

The majority of your learning will be undertaken via The Hub, however on-campus elements form an important part of your learning experience. The way the programme is designed, with the community on-hand, allows everyone to contribute to a learning experience that places engagement and technology at the forefront.

Imperial’s award-winning Edtech lab

The Edtech Lab was Imperial College London’s very first digital learning and education group, established in 2005. We have championed the substantial increase in the use of educational technology at the Business School, launching the Global Online MBA programme in 2015.

The Edtech Lab have received numerous awards along the way including an Effective Practice Award at the Sloan-C Blended Learning Conference in 2011 and a silver award for Business Education at the 2018 QS Reimagine Education conference.

“People are human, and we value crafting programmes like craftspeople. We see course development as a creative process that has a strong human element,” says David Lefevre, Director of the Edtech Lab. “Think of the last time you’ve called a company and entered an automated support system. That’s the antithesis of what we attempt to do; we believe in connectivity and dialogue amongst humans.”
