The early career and hybrid MBA programs at San Jose State University’s Lucas College & Graduate School of Business, provides students a top notch Silicon Valley experience throughout all aspects of their degree. The B-school has offered this degree since the early 80’s, and this year, the early career MBA recently welcomed 117 students to their 205 MBAs, for a total of 322 MBAs in the program.
The 42-unit program is taught in a hybrid format designed for students on different timelines. Students are invited to go at one of three paces: either the 12-month accelerated track, the full-time 24-track, or the part-time 36-month track. The program teaches a general MBA curriculum, so there are no specializations technically, however students can always select electives to fit their personal interests underneath the umbrella of business studies.
As for courses that go beyond the classroom, students can take an internship course that can be used to earn course credits. The B-school says the key feature of their program is the experiential learning course called the “Silicon Valley Experience,” where students immerse into the culture, develop entrepreneurial mindsets, and have plenty of networking opportunities with C-suite executives in Silicon Valley. The course includes various professional development activities such as company visits, academic competitions, roundtable discussions, career coaching, networking events, soft-skills workshops and other events providing students with an in-depth exposure to Silicon Valley.

“I chose the Early Career MBA program because of the unique blend of experiential learning along with unique career paths and some of the courses here,” says Ashay Llame, MBA ‘24. “Courses like Managing New Product Development make me ready for the industry right away. The skills which I learned from this course, employers are actively seeking for that and that’s why it’s a perfect choice to choose this program.
“I took the course IT for emerging businesses, and in that course, we got to do hands-on exercises with the latest technologies like AI Blockchain and how we can leverage these solutions to solve business problems. Just by diving deep into it, I’m really solving actual industry problems and recruiters are getting in touch with me because I have those necessary skills.”
