Business Insider recently spoke to experts on how candidates should prepare for interviews at Bain & Co and tips for how to land a 6-figure job out of b-school. WHAT BAIN & COMPANY LOOKS FOR Experts say hiring managers at Bain look for specific candidates that demonstrate an ability to problem solve. But, perhaps just as important, the company seeks out people who can effectively work in teams. “Bain people love working with each other,” Bevans told P&Q in 2018. “It’s not like when I was an ex-engineer where you’d go off and put your head down. We like coming to a better answer together than coming to a pretty good answer by ourselves.” “We really do work closely in teams and we want everybody here,” Keith Bevans, global head of consultant recruiting at Bain, tells Business Insider. “We want somebody who’s thinking about not just winning as an individual, but winning as a team to stand out in the process.” That ability to collaborate is paramount at Bain. It’s something Bevans has highlighted repeatedly in previous interviews. “Being in an environment that is collaborative with clients means necessarily that we are collaborative with each other. At Bain, you are not the lead singer,” Bevans tells Clear Admit back in 2018. “As candidates go through the recruiting process, they get to know what it takes to be successful here. Sometimes when people get to meet us, they opt out because they are looking for something a little different.” WHY CONSULTING? Bain also seeks out candidates who can demonstrate a real fit and drive for consulting. “I think a lot of people out there don’t know what they want to do with their lives and can’t really focus on anything,” Bevans tells Business Insider. “Somewhere along the way, their mentor tells them to do consulting because they do a little bit of everything.” Rather, it can be helpful to show how a career at Bain will benefit your goals in the long run. Davis Nguyen, a former Bain consultant, explains how he wanted to pursue consulting because it aligned with his goal of becoming an entrepreneur. “I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but my mentors found weaknesses in me that they thought consulting would be able to solve,” he tells Business Insider. “I ended up having a world-class training process to actually learn business skills that helped me later on in life that I can’t find any other place.” Sources: Business Insider, Poets&Quants For more in-depth interviews with Bevans, go to the following stories… Meet Bain & Company’s MBA Class Of 2018 Class Of ’17: Meet Bain & Co’s Newest MBA Hires What Bain & Co.
