You can’t escape it – employers are increasingly relying on data-driven professionals who can use AI to improve workflows and drive better results. Earning an analytics-focused master’s degree is an excellent way to get in front of this shift and add real value to your team. It’s the best way to demonstrate your aptitude and position yourself for rewarding opportunities.

With so many education options available, find out how to decide which analytics-focused business master’s degree is the right fit for your skills.

  • Master of Science in Business Analytics

A master’s degree in business analytics provides you with the deepest level of knowledge in all things data. Simply put, business analytics programs teach you how to analyze and distill massive amounts of data points so you can offer innovative solutions to business challenges.

A solid business analytics program prepares you to become well-versed in AI, big data frameworks, machine learning and programming languages – like Python and R. You’ll also create statistical models and master visualization tools.

“This degree prepares you to lead and manage data teams and share your findings with others throughout the organization,” says Suresh Acharya, the academic director of the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith’s School of Business’ MS in Business Analytics program.

Consider this degree if you are a methodical problem solver who wants to holistically strengthen your quantitative abilities by using a range of tools and technology.

  • Master of Science in Information Systems

If your goal is to become an effective liaison between analysts and company leadership, then a master’s degree in information systems may be a great fit for you. Analytics teams and higher-ups count on these professionals to manage complex projects, keep important information secure and communicate data-informed solutions to teams.

“You’ll become an adaptable critical thinker who is skilled in the latest technology and steers leadership toward the strategic application of information technology,” says Tejwansh (Tej) Singh Anand, the academic director for the Maryland Smith’s MS in Information Systems program.

Consider this degree if you already have strong quantitative abilities, and want to further develop your skills to pursue a career in business-technology leadership.

  • Master of Science in Marketing Analytics

If you’re interested in analyzing consumer data to improve marketing campaigns, then a master’s degree in marketing analytics could be a great fit. Like the aforementioned analytics programs, you can expect to learn about AI, machine learning and other data-focused concepts. However, you’ll apply these skills toward analyzing consumer data, which helps companies better manage customer relationships.

“Getting a master’s degree in marketing analytics is a great option for problem solvers who want to apply their quant skills toward a dynamic, consumer-focused career,” says Judy Frels, the academic director for Maryland Smith’s MS in Marketing Analytics program.

Consider this degree if you have strong quantitative abilities and want to help companies strategically improve their marketing campaigns and pricing decisions with data.
