Age: 40 Hometown: Seattle, WA Fun fact about yourself: Love to travel. Have visited 50+ countries and counting. Undergraduate School and Degree: Western Washington University, BA in Communication Where are you currently working: Cutter & Buck, Regional Sales Manager What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career? Completing a full-time MBA course load while leading a sales team and welcoming two new family members in the two years I was in the program. This is easily my proudest accomplishment, symbolizing my dedication and resilience. Why did you choose this school’s online MBA program? I chose it because of its unique “hybrid” MBA model. This program fit my life perfectly, offering me the flexibility I needed to balance my demanding work travel schedule with my academic pursuits. The blended format of online and on campus in person engagement was exactly what I was looking for. What was your favorite part of being in an online MBA program? The in-person aspect of the “online” hybrid program was my favorite part. The camaraderie with faculty and peers was second-to-none. I’ve created friendships and mentorships that I’m confident will last far beyond graduation. What was the most surprising thing about an online learning environment? The level of interaction and the live elements were unexpected. It wasn’t just about logging in, but actively engaging, which made for a more dynamic and worthwhile learning experience. How did your online experience compare with your in-the-classroom experience as an undergraduate student? My Hybrid MBA experience was all about applying what I learned as I learned it. This was a game-changer compared to the more traditional, lecture-based learning from my undergrad. It felt more like working a job than taking a class, which really suited my style. What is your best piece of advice to an applicant for thriving in an online MBA program? Embrace the chaos. The program is demanding, but the growth you’ll experience is worth every late night and early morning. Your investment will pay dividends in ways you can’t imagine. How has your online education helped you in your current job? It has produced immediate impact; everything you learn is practical in your day-to-day happenings at work as a senior level executive. Did you earn a promotion while in the program or immediately after graduation? Yes, I did earn a raise during my time in the program. The promotion is TBD. Why did you pursue an online MBA program instead of a full-time residential program? The hybrid format was the only way I could achieve the balance I needed to mesh with my life as it stands, with a growing family, frequent work travel, and a thriving career. Work-compatible MBA programs are a great way to continue growing in your career without having to pause and put your life on hold while pursuing a traditional residential program. I want to lead with vision and empathy, continuing to grow as an influential mentor and leader, and to drive innovation within my industry, leveraging all that I’ve learned and will continue to learn.
