ICFAI’s Indu Perepu Takes No. 1 Spot On The Case Centre’s 2026 Top Bestselling Case Authors List

For the first time since the ranking began in 2016, the late Debapratim Purkayastha is not at the top

The Case Centre’s 50 bestselling case authors of 2025-2026

For the first time in the list’s 10-year history, there’s a new name at the top of The Case Centre’s annual ranking of the world’s bestselling case authors.

Indu Perepu of ICFAI Business School (IBS) takes the No. 1 position in The Case Centre’s Top 50 Bestselling Case Authors 2025/26, released today (October 5). She replaces her ICFAI colleague, the late Debapratim Purkayastha, who led the list every year since its launch in 2016. Purkayastha ranks No. 2 this year.

The annual list is based on worldwide sales and distribution data for cases sold through The Case Centre during the academic year. It recognizes individual teaching faculty whose cases were most widely purchased and used by educators.

“This year’s list marks an exciting new chapter for the Top 50, with Indu Perepu taking the No. 1 position for the first time,” says Vicky Lester, CEO of The Case Centre. “Indu’s achievement reflects the strong demand for her cases and the contribution she and her colleagues at ICFAI Business School are making to case-based business education.”

Perepu’s rise caps a steady climb. She ranked No. 2 last year behind Purkayastha, who held the top spot for 10 consecutive years. Purkayastha died of Covid-19 in May 2021, after authoring or co-authoring more than 500 cases taught at nearly 1,600 schools in 95 countries, and his cases have continued to top the list in the years since his death. Perepu’s widely adopted cases explore sustainability, governance and ethics.

NEW FACES IN THE TOP 10

Below the top two, the list shows notable movement. Nader Tavassoli of London Business School makes his top 10 debut at No. 3, jumping from No. 24 last year. INSEAD’s L Felipe Monteiro climbs from No. 12 to No. 4.

ICFAI’s Syeda Maseeha Qumer ranks fifth, followed by INSEAD’s W Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, who slip from a tie at No. 3 last year to a tie at No. 6. ICFAI authors round out the top 10: Jitesh Nair at No. 8, Sanjib Dutta at No. 9 and Koti Vinod Babu at No. 10, up from No. 23 last year.

ICFAI AND INSEAD DOMINATE

ICFAI Business School once again has the strongest showing of any institution, with six authors in the top 10 and seven in the Top 50 overall. INSEAD follows with three authors in the top 10 and six in the Top 50.

Other schools with multiple authors on the list include IMD and Ivey Business School, each with four, as well as London Business School with three. HEC Paris and Columbia Business School each have two.

U.S. SCHOOLS LOSE GROUND

U.S. business schools account for seven of this year’s Top 50 authors, down from 13 last year. Columbia Business School leads with two: Todd Jick at No. 19 and Dan J Wang at No. 49. Harvard Business School, Georgetown McDonough, Darden, Kellogg and Penn State Harrisburg each have one. Penn State Harrisburg’s Arpita Agnihotri is the highest-ranked author from a U.S. school, tied at No. 15. Georgetown’s Kasra Ferdows is at No. 22, Harvard’s Christopher A Bartlett at No. 27 and Kellogg’s Mohanbir Sawhney at No. 31. Darden’s Kimberly Whitler is a new entry at No. 26.

Harvard’s decline is the steepest. The school placed six authors on last year’s list but has only Bartlett this year, down from No. 22. HBS colleagues Jill Avery, David Collis, Geoffrey Jones, David Yoffie and Ben Esty all drop off. Columbia also falls from three authors to two, and Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business, which had one author last year, has none. For the second straight year, no authors from Wharton, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Chicago Booth or MIT Sloan appear on the list.

EIGHT NEW ENTRIES, RECORD FEMALE REPRESENTATION

There are eight new entries in this year’s Top 50. The highest is Priyanka Panday of Graphic Era Deemed University, Dehradun, at No. 25. The other newcomers are Whitler; Fabio Ancarani of Fondazione Bologna University Business School (No. 30); Shahrzad Yaghtin of UCLy (Lyon Catholic University), ESDES (tied at No. 32); Sumita Rai of Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (No. 34); Anne Michaut of HEC Paris (No. 35); Avinash Tyagi of Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University (No. 40); and Ludo Van der Hayden of INSEAD (No. 43).

Female representation on the list climbs from 22% last year to 32% this year, the highest level since the Top 50 began.

“It’s also encouraging to see eight new authors joining the list and female representation reaching its highest level since the Top 50 began,” Lester says. “Together, these changes show the breadth and continued evolution of case writing across the global business education community.”

The Case Centre is a registered charity that describes itself as the independent home of the case method. It distributes the world’s largest collection of management case studies, articles and books, and has more than 400 member organizations worldwide.
