About the Program

As one of the first b-schools in the US to offer a fully online AACSB-accredited MBA, Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim’s OMBA program is focused on lifelong, experiential, global, and entrepreneurial education, as well as use-inspired research.

“Through our historic cooperative education and corporate residency experiences for our full-time students, the university has developed strong ties with regional, national, and global companies,” Kate Klepper, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business, says. “This allows all of our programs to be enriched by our close connection to business and industry.”

Two-to-Five-Year Completion

The D’Amore-McKim OMBA can be completed in as few as two years or as long as five years.

Students spend their first year on faculty-established core subject matter including finance, accounting, marketing, ethics, statistics, human resource management, and the global business landscape.

After the first year, students learn more about strategy, enterprise growth, IT implications, supply chain and operations, and then their choice of more concentrated subject matter via electives.

Electives at D’Amore-McKim cover finance, healthcare management, technology management, innovation and entrepreneurship, international management, marketing, supply chain management, and sustainability.

Learning Powered by Experience

One of the key values of D’Amore-McKim is experiential learning, which is embedded in the structure of the OMBA curriculum.

Learning Powered by Experience

One of the key values of D’Amore-McKim is experiential learning, which is embedded in the structure of the OMBA curriculum.

“The faculty who teach in the online program are the same that teach in other D’Amore-McKim graduate programs, so this distinctive mindset is applied across the board,” Klepper says.

D’Amore-McKim OMBAs can partake in the International Field Study, a 3-credit course designed to give students intense exposure to the global business environment by immersing them in the business practices and culture of a country abroad.

Through the field study, students take coursework during the semester then embark on a 10-day trip a 10-day trip encompassing a variety of activities including talks by guest speakers, meetings with regional officials, a visit to a local university, and visits to local, national and multinational firms. Some 2019 destinations include Thailand and Vietnam, Morocco and Portugal, and Israel.

Additionally, D’Amore-McKim OMBAs can take part in the domestic campus residency course, an intensive one-week program that gives them the option to study at one of the university’s campuses. Campus-based residency programs take place at Northeastern University’s main campus in Boston, Massachusetts, or at other campus locations including Charlotte, North Carolina, and Seattle, Washington.

Career Support

At D’Amore-McKim, OMBAs can connect with potential employers in a variety of ways.

“The most direct way we help connect our students to regional corporations is through campus-based networking and education fairs with hundreds of employers,” Klepper says. “Students also have access to opportunities through our online career services tools after completion of half the program. In addition, there are Campus Residency Courses offered at several of Northeastern’s regional campuses.”

Some popular employers for D’Amore-McKim OMBAs include UTC, Mastercard, Verizon, and State Street.

“Through our historic cooperative education and corporate residency experiences for our full-time students, the university has developed strong ties with regional, national, and global companies,” Klepper says. “This allows all of our programs to be enriched by our close connection to business and industry.”

Building Leaders for the Modern World

One of the key aspects the D’Amore-McKim education stresses is the ability to prepare business leaders that the times demand.

And the OMBA at D’Amore-McKim embodies that idea fully.

“We live in an era of digital convergence when the most successful leaders are the most innovative at integrating their organizations’ physical, human, and digital resources,” Klepper says. “We deliver curriculum that combines knowledge in technology and data analytics with uniquely human skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Bringing all of that together is Northeastern’s experience-powered approach to education.”
