Hi Mr. Global Finance Consultant, I’m glad to see that you’ve already looked to put your lower GPA behind you by achieving a strong 730 in your GMAT. It also sounds like you can call out a strong track record in leadership positions across the board at college, and these should give you some good examples to reference in your applications. Ross is going to want to see evidence of strong teamwork so think about examples where you can best demonstrate this key skill. I believe that all your schools of choice will like your plans to give back to your home state longer-term and your ambition to work in consulting post-MBA will be supported by the existing experience you have on your resume. One thing I’m not particularly clear on, however, is where your true passion lies…to secure competitive roles with top-tier firms, you will need to show a real love of consulting or finance and it feels a bit like these are simply a means to an end for you at present. Be careful how you position yourself in your applications, as schools will want to understand your motivations clearly to see how you will stand up in the tough post-MBA interview selection process for these sectors. What is it about Private Equity that attracts you? Why switch from consulting to finance if you are perhaps looking to go back into consulting? Your goals must make sense, and all the steps taken so far and planned for the future must show as part of a well thought through and linear career plan. In all, I think you have a good shot at your target schools though, as long as you craft thoughtful essays. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss further. Wishing you the best of luck!
