Short-term goal is to work as a product manager at a high-tech company. The MBA will help me make this switch, add to the technical skill-set in terms of knowledge and also networking. Long term goal is to help conceptualize and be a founding team member of a tech product that is in its infancy.

You’re smart to position yourself as an analytical person, and I think Emory is a really good choice for you. It’s a great school with a terrific MBA program and you should have a shot there if you present well. One thing that is unclear to me in your profile is whether you are working at your startup now or are a marketing manager at a boutique firm. It’s always difficult for admissions staff to evaluate an entrepreneur applicant unless you provide some solid background info on your company. If you have angel investors or VC backers that would mean a lot because it represents third party endorsement of your idea and your company. If not, it would be important to note the company’s revenue growth and number of employees. If it’s just you, that is obviously less helpful to you in getting an admit. Emory does not publish its GRE scores but I think you’re in the ballpark with a 310. It’s now going to wow them and you may want to consider taking the test again to get a higher score. I know. You hate standardized tests and so do I. But the fact that your undergraduate degree is not from a selective university and your GPA is 3.3 and you haven’t worked for a well-known company all work against you. That is why your GRE score will assume larger importance to your candidacy, along with the success of your startup.
