I really enjoy my work, but there’s a pretty firm five year cap on how long I can do it without switching to a dramatically different role in the Navy or separating. As a result, I’ve been considering what would be the best option for my future career. I’ve concluded an MBA would offer a lot of new skills and allow me to pivot into a new field.

Length of Employment: 2 yrs, 6 mos
I supervise five instructors who plus myself annually facilitate the certification of 1000 of the Navy’s brightest enlisted sailors in the chemistry, materials science, and radiological controls required to safely operate nuclear reactors on nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers.
I’m interested in consulting as I think a lot of the soft skills I have developed as an instructor will prove very valuable in presenting proposals to and maintaining relationships with clients. I’d like to eventually specialize in the clean energy industry based on my work experience. I’d lean towards working in the Midwest after graduation.
