  • MBA Prep School | Odds Assessment: 15%

Hi Mr. Policy Development, this is Kristen from MBA Prep School. You have a lot of stats that top programs will be attracted to right off the bat: 740 GMAT, CFA, international experience, and progression in finance at top firms. I also like your passion for social change and commitment to volunteering as well as finding ways to use your professional success to have a greater impact (certainly a value shared by many of your target schools). One thing that jumps out at me is that you didn’t provide a “big life win” in your profile. Hi Mr. Policy Development,
Thanks for posting your profile. This is Debbie Choy, Senior Consultant at mbaMission. I like that you have a robust academic track record (GPA, GMAT, CFA). Your community engagement at a financial literacy organization is also a quality that the Admissions Committee likes to see. Separately, I think your international background will be helpful for your career goals. If you can weave a compelling narrative that ties in your personal international experiences, your work background, and your future career goals, I believe that would be the key to your application success at HBS. Iā€™m happy to discuss other specific questions about your profile in a 1:1 consult. Wishing you the best in your MBA journey!

Your 740 GMAT combined with a CFA charter will easily convince any adcom that you are capable of doing the work in a top program. While your GPA is likely lower than averages, it could be on a scale other than 4.0 so you may be given some wiggle room.

I like your commitment to social impact and financial literacy. I suspect that you will have a great narrative that weaves together your professional experience with the volunteer work you are doing. One key to success will be showing the adcom folks WHY behind your aspirations. What impact do you see yourself making in an organization such as IFC/WB? How will the world …
