I’m a consultant turned university/government relations administrator who has a passion for education. I’m also a former D1 athlete. In my spare time, I mentor current university students and DFS clients. After 3 (going on 4 by Fall 2023) years in higher education, I would love to transition back to the private sector.

In college, a large part of my daily focus was directed toward my sport and after graduating, I had a lot to uncover regarding my professional interests and aspirations. In these four years since university, I’ve spent significant time persevering through uncertainty, learning about career paths and I’m excited to take this next step.
In my two professional roles, I have most enjoyed the analytical, problem-solving work of a consultant, and the communication and creative strategy I employ in my current role. Many of my responsibilities directly translate to marketing and brand management, but I believe an MBA would be an essential piece to advancing my credibility and translating these experiences to the industry

Given your impressive background as an athlete at Duke University, a former consultant at a top firm and now more than three years in higher education as an administrator, I can’t imagine UCLA turning you down. Here’s why: You are pretty much on the numbers, with a GRE score that is just a point lower than the latest class average at UCLA Anderson. More important than those stats, however, is your overall story. Admission officials understand and admire the incredible discipline and work associated with being a D1 athlete. They also know that a public policy degree from Duke is a real plus. Landing a job at a cop consulting firm is another highly selective filter you went through and then being an administrator in higher ed has brought you to an ideal place for the career transition you want to make with an MBA. From the short snippets of your narrative here, I can tell that you are an articulate and thoughtful person. All this makes you an ideal MBA candidate and any number of top business schools would love to have you among their cohorts. I just hope you are applying to more schools than UCLA because it is never a good idea to apply to only one highly selective school. You may have another reason for wanting to be in LA and I get that. But instead of focusing on geography, I would urge you to focus on the two-year educational journey you are about to take. It truly is transformative and you should give yourself the gift of making the most of your MBA experience, not merely being in a certain place you may want to live. I’m not certain if that is the case, but if I were you, I would be applying to Kellogg, Berkeley Haas, UVA Darden, and Michigan Ross. If you loved Durham, I would definitely put Duke Fuqua in the mix.
