I want to stay in my industry and build stronger financial modeling skills to either pursue a brand manager role at startup, start my own brand for a product that has yet to be millenialized, or manage portfolios at CPG-focused VC firm or incubator. (A reach, I know.)

Sorry to hear you were turned down by HBS. Ultimately, itās a numbers story. Your GMAT and GPA were just too low for Harvard. And if you mentioned that your goal is venture capital, that probably didnāt help your cause, given your work experience background. At your age, you still have a couple of other chances to reapply at HBS or to broaden your outlook on schools. If you have your heart set on Harvard, you need to retake the GMAT and get closer to the median score of 730.

Hey Ms. Lucky Charm. Krista Nannery from mbaMission here. Thanks for posting, and I hope you are hanging in there after the HBS result. On the surface, you have such an interesting profile…Stanford undergrad, CPG experience, and product design experience. However, at 690/3.2, you are just at a disadvantage. Most top b-schools have a GMAT average of 730, and then the 80th percentile range of the GPA tends to be 3.2 to 3.8. When both of your numbers are below the averages, this is never going to be an easy process. My two main suggestions are… 1. Up the GMAT. Get it up to a comfortable point to mitigate that 3.2. 2. Expand your school selection. With your profile, there are a number of schools that …

If you’re open to it, I’d also like you to look at the international programs…INSEAD, LBS, HEC to start. I hope that helps! Krista
Post MBA goal seems a bit all over the place. Needs to be better defined. GMAT for Harvard is on the lower side.
This is a tough one for sure.
The story of current role to “why MBA” to future role is weak at best.
