The IPADE Business School MBA: What You Need To Know

Since its founding in 1967, IPADE has offered students an MBA prepared to improve decision-making skills, increase open-mindedness, and build their management skills. With campuses in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, plus satellite locations across Mexico, IPADE Business School at Pan-American University offers students a chance to immerse themselves in Mexican culture while obtaining an MBA with a global focus. Although located in Mexico, The Full-Time MBA Program is conducted 100% in English.

A cosmopolitan metropolis with lots of cultural activities, Mexico City is the largest urban area in the country. At IPADE, the focus is truly global. The 22-month full-time MBA program was named one of the best international 2-year MBA programs in 2019 by Forbes. Foundational to the MBA is the idea of encouraging global consciousness and teaching students to work from an ethical and strategic perspective, helping to develop students’ managerial potential and professional skills. On average, the program totals 130 students from two cohorts; 75 in Mexico City, and 55 in Monterrey.

The first phase of the curriculum focuses on teaching the art of managing a company, and the next phase puts the knowledge into practice. The final phase provides students with a summer internship and a mandatory international exchange experience in the fourth trimester of their second year that allows them to deepen their global perspective. During this exchange, students engage with other MBA students from top business schools from around the world. Included are academic day trips, a global case competition, and a diverse student body that fully takes advantage of networking in a global environment. There are around 40 school options for the exchange.

Between their first and second year, students must participate in a summer internship, which includes a project with a company. The project is included so that students have the opportunity to apply much of what they have learned during the first year of the program in real business situations.

In total, MBA’s will complete 221.75 credits integrated by 1,052 contact hours and 2,496 independent hours. The school offers nine different academic areas, ranging from administration to energy sciences and the environment. Primarily utilizing the Case Method, students engage in personal study, teamwork, and professor-led plenary sessions to learn from business cases based on real organizational challenges.

For applicants seeking a comprehensive learning experience with a global focus, IPADE Business School is a good option. They have maintained an Advisory Committee with members of the Mexican business community and representatives from Harvard Business School and IESE Business School. According to their website, the committee meets every other year to synthesize information and teaching perspectives in North America, Europe, and Latin America. Along with many other programs, the committee keeps IPADE involved in the international community.
