What You Need To Know

The MSU Spartan community is said to be vast and supportive, located in the vibrant town of East Lansing, Michigan. The Michigan State Broad College of Business has been graduating MBAs since the 1960s. The B-school ranked No. 1 for Supply Chain Management and Logistics by U.S. News & World Report for the eighth straight year in 2024.

“We teach people to look at creative solutions to problems, there’s a roadmap for being creative in a business context. It’s important that every student has multiple opportunities to show what they can do in real environments, and we do that across the 21 months of the Broad MBA curriculum,” says Wayne Hutchison, managing director of the Broad full-time MBA.

Academics And Programs

Students have described Broad’s 21-month full-time MBA program as a home away from home because of the small class sizes, a heavy emphasis on team-based work, and strong relationships between faculty and students. The program combines a theory-based curriculum with soft skills used for effective leadership.

On average, the program welcomes between 60 to 70 students per year. In a span of 21 months, Broad MBAs complete 61 credits in the usual core subjects, allowing for candidates to choose from six concentrations including Finance, HR Management, Marketing, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship and Supply Chain Management. These can be personalized by studying electives in areas such as consulting, insights and analytics, data visualization, and global immersion.

Internships are highly recommended between a Broad MBA’s first and second year. Every year, the Broad MBA hosts experiential learning workshops for students called Extreme Green, where companies present a business problem to MBAs. They then have 4 days to solve and present their solutions — a great opportunity to practice all they have learned in the program.

Outside of the required curriculum, Broad students frequent tech treks and other professional development opportunities. Also popular at Broad is the Kesseler Team Leadership Lab, dedicated to leadership and team processes and the Supply Chain Laboratory, which simulates an end-to-end supply chain, looking especially at the way information flows along it.

Beginning last fall, Michigan State University’s Broad Full-Time MBA now includes a STEM-certified option. Both STEM and full-time MBA students work in 5-person teams, reshuffled each semester, and MBAs can specialize in Supply Chain Management, Marketing, or Finance with a 12-credit pathway.

Why Students Chose

“I wanted to be a part of a strong and supportive community. The vibe you feel from students, faculty and alumni at Broad is collaborative, welcoming, and inclusive. The people here genuinely care about you and are willing to help you with whatever you need.” AJ Slaughter (‘25)

“I didn’t expect to ever consider returning to school for an MBA, but when I began considering going back to school, I attended virtual Broad info sessions and eventually the experiential learning day, where I fell in love with the people, the program, and the environment. I knew right away that this was where I needed to be.” Kaylee Stevenson (’25)

“I would absolutely choose Broad again. I’ve leveraged the MBA program, the Burgess Institute, the University, and its’ alumni. Most folks will only look at the courses and gauge the value of the program on that, which is fine, but if you want to make the most out of your time, I’d recommend turning over all the rocks and utilizing the tools/resources as much as you can.” Elliot Smith (‘24)

“As someone wanting more hands-on learning, the case-based pedagogy with a strategic view of supply chain, even before supply chain became the dinner table topic, made MSU a great fit for me. I was drawn to the close-knit community of students and faculty members who offered growth opportunities beyond the classroom through industry collaborations and sharing of diverse cultural, professional backgrounds, and perspectives. So, MSU was a natural choice.” Rajat Srivastava (‘23)

“Aspiring to extend my career in the supply chain domain, I chose Broad mainly because of Broad’s reputation of being the best MBA program having focus on supply chain in the United States. Additionally, Broad’s extended support in my MBA application and the onboarding process differentiated it from other B-schools. Lastly, the easily approachable and large Alumni network working in leading organizations also played a pivotal role in selection of MBA program.” Vishal Chaudhary (‘22).
