The UAlberta MBA is taught through lectures, real-word case studies, and applied learning. With half of the class hailing from outside of Canada and faculty from around the world, the Alberta MBA is also a very international experience. “The MBA program here at the U of A is very rare in the sense that it has camaraderie and a team spirit that I’m not sure exists everywhere. That’s what really makes the program great here. Everyone comes to the table with inherent friendly attributes, offering guidance and support instead of competition,” says MBA Jesse Ives in a YouTube video. This makes sense when you look at their class sizes. The B-School has quite small intakes of just over 40 students. In the span of 20 months, MBAs tackle projects in groups and they often naturally develop close working relationships with their peers. The B-School is fortunate to be in Edmonton – the capital city of Alberta. The city is often referred to as the “Festival City” because of its vibrant arts and cultural reputation. It is home to top companies like ATCO, Finning, and EPCORE, the famous Edmonton mall, and the largest urban park system in North America known as the River Valley Parks. The UAlberta MBA curriculum is customizable by design, offering five different tracks in Energy Finance, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Operations & Business Analytics, Public Sector & Healthcare, and Strategy & Consulting. It isn’t required; however MBAs are encouraged to pursue a summer internship. Also there to support UAlberta MBAs is the Career Management Center, offering one-on-one coaching and plenty of career planning services. The B-School provides numerous other resources for MBAs, like the eHUB entrepreneurship center, business incubators, and accelerator programs, to support students in launching their own ventures. Outside of required curriculum, students can partake in case competitions, conferences, and student-led clubs. Results look fantastic, with 94% of graduates employed within three months of graduation. “The MBA program here truly is unique. I couldn’t imagine having gone to any other institution. It’s blown me away – some of the people that I’ve met, the experiences that I’ve had, the professors I’ve learned from. I think these experiences will go a long way in my future. Anybody who’s looking for an MBA program today should choose the University of Alberta,” says Ives.
