The Master of Science in Accountancy program (MSA) is a registered program with the New York State Education Department. Graduates of this program satisfy the educational requirements for CPA licensure in New York State. The organization of the MSA focuses on preparing entry-level students for a long and successful career in the public accounting profession. The MSA provides maximum flexibility so students can alter their academic course of study to reflect whether they will be entering advisory, assurance, or tax service lines.
Students with undergraduate degrees in business will be able to complete the MSA in 30 credits, depending on course waivers. Listed price corresponds to the minimum credit requirement without additional fees.
The five required courses (not subject to waiver) are: TAX 9861, TAX 9878, BUS 9557, and two advanced accounting electives (Advanced Auditing, Forensic Accounting, Current Topics in Financial Accounting, Accounting for Financial Instruments, Governmental and Not-for-Profit Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis, etc.). BUS 9557, Managerial Skills for Professional Accountancy, develops students’ “soft skills” as exercised in CPA firms while they learn about the culture, organization, regulation, and ethics of the accounting profession in the U.S.
