About the Program

The M.S. in the Management of Information Technology (MSMIT) at the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce is a one-year program for working professionals who lead or are preparing to lead at the intersection of technology and business. The curriculum centers on how organizations use technology to drive value, with a focus on digital transformation, enterprise architecture, business strategy, and product and project management. Participants engage with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning while examining how technology decisions shape business outcomes, organizational strategy, and cross-functional execution.

The program brings together professionals at different stages of their careers, including experienced IT managers preparing for executive-level responsibilities, early-career professionals moving into leadership roles, and individuals transitioning into IT leadership from other fields. This mix of backgrounds supports a collaborative learning environment where participants apply concepts across organizational contexts while continuing in their professional roles.

Application Deadlines

October 5, 2026 | November 5, 2026 | January 5, 2027 | March 5, 2027 | May 5, 2027* | *After May 5, 2027, applications will be considered on a space-available rolling basis through the final submission deadline of August 15, 2027.

Program Format and Schedule

The M.S. in the Management of Information Technology is a one-year, part-time program for working professionals delivered through a blended format that combines online coursework with regularly scheduled in-person sessions. This structure allows participants to engage with program content while continuing to apply concepts within their professional roles.

The curriculum is organized into four academic modules that integrate topics across technology, strategy, and leadership rather than following a traditional course-by-course sequence. These modules focus on core areas including digital transformation, enterprise architecture, data and analytics, and product and project management, providing a structured progression through key dimensions of technology-enabled business leadership.

As part of the program, participants have the option to engage in a global learning experience in Mendoza, Argentina, where they examine the role of technology, innovation, and digital transformation within an international business context.

In-person sessions are held on a recurring basis at UVA’s Darden DC Metro facility in Rosslyn, Virginia – home to the University’s graduate business programs for working professionals. These sessions support collaboration, discussion, and applied problem solving, bringing participants together to work through complex challenges and share perspectives across industries.
