The Best B-School Holiday Videos

4) University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business (The Night Before Christmas)

Think of Smith as the holiday answer to the Columbia Business School Follies. Each year, the business school produces a holiday video high on hyperkinetics. Last year, they successfully tackled Clement Clarke Moore’s classic poem, with wickedly candid lines like, “Faculty was nestled / in their cozy desk chairs / with visions of research / floating through the air.” Here, the school nods to its various constituencies, integrating a storyline that leads everyone outside Van Munching Hall, where the Smith community wishes everyone a happy holidays. Inviting…Funny…Classy…Effective. Kudos!

5) University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management (Sleigh Ride Together)

If it worked once, why not try it again? Carlson is back, collaborating with the choral department on an even grander way to ring in the holidays. This time, the production values are higher, with better lighting, costumes, and even singing. Too bad it lacks the spontaneity of its predecessor. Make no mistake: The maroon is in tune and the gold never gets old. And stuffing Goldy in a tux was a nice touch.

6) Harvard Business School (12 Days of B-School)

What’s a Poets&Quants ranking without Harvard? Yes, the H.O.T.S. a capella group jumps into the fray, with its own rendition of what makes the school tick. And their lyrics range from narcissistic assertions (“Twelve hot men in tuxes”) to insider jokes (“Four ethnic parties”), to annoyances (“Too much McKinsey”). Yeah, you’d expect more from HBS. For a real laugh, check out this variation of the ’12 Days’ with the H.O.T.S. group going Gangnam Style.
