Description: Social entrepreneurship is a big buzzword lately…but what does it mean (really)?  Are social entrepreneurs simply looking to balance profit and altruism? Are they strictly do-gooders who use business tools to drive the greater good and address social problems? Are their innovations focused exclusively on the underserved and disadvantaged – or do they seek a larger market disruption? During this course, students will hear from four leading social entrepreneurs: Charles Best of DonorsChoose.org, Thulsiraj Ravilla of Aravind Eyecare, Leila Janah of Sama Group, and JB Schramm of College Summit. In the process, they will study concepts like impact, financial sustainability and scaling to help prepare them to start their own initiatives.
