The highest reported starting salary in the class–$225,000–went to an MBA who took a job in the telecom industry. That level of pay even exceeded the highest salary bagged by a graduate who went into private equity where the top salary was $210,000. The lowest reported salary was $50,000, probably for a student who went into the non-profit sector.

MEDIAN SALARY FOR MBAS LANDING JOBS OUTSIDE THE U.S.: $113,118

The school said that median salaries for the 17% of the class landing jobs outside the U.S. was $113,118, nearly $12,000 less than the $125,000 median for those accepting positions in the U.S. The highest median salaries–$130,000–went to MBAs who took jobs in the southwest, while the lowest median salaries–$110,000–were accepted in Asia. As expected, the largest percentage of Booth grads stayed put in Chicago, with 26.5% of the MBAs accepting jobs in the home city of the school. Some 12.5% of the class headed for the Bay Area.

One surprise in the employment report was the median pay handed out by companies in the energy field. After consulting and private equity, the highest starting pay was offered by the energy sector: $128,000 in starting salary (see below chart). The lowest median salaries–$100,000–went to MBAs who accepted jobs in retail, education, non-profit and the government.
