Meet The Berkeley Haas MBA Class of 2019

Aun Hussain

U.C.-Berkeley, Haas School of Business

Describe yourself in 15 words or less: Small town kid from middle America, hoping to change the way the world eats.

Hometown: Plymouth, MN

Fun Fact About Yourself: I travelled across Pakistan on trains that were built by the British during colonial times.

Undergraduate School and Major: Carleton College, Political Science

Employers and Job Titles Since Graduation: General Mills, Sales and Business Management Associate

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: Maybe not my biggest accomplishment, but the one I am most proud of: Working with state nutritionists, I helped increase the affordability and availability of healthy and organic snacks in Kentucky and Indiana public schools. I was particularly focused on helping schools located in rural areas with high populations of students eligible for reimbursable school meals.

Looking back on your experience, what one piece of advice would you give to future business school applicants?  Your own story is your biggest asset. Everyone you are competing with will have amazing work experience, insane stats, and great letters of recommendation. But nobody else will have your story.

What was the key factor that led you to choose this program for your full-time MBA and why was it so important to you? There are several business schools that would have given me a great business education and exposure to incredibly talented classmates. However, I felt no business school aligned with my values the same way that Haas did. From its Defining Principles, to its membership in The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, my experiences with Haas have left me feeling at home, and inspired to work toward goals that impact people beyond just myself.

What would success look like to you after your first year of business school? Making lots of friends and having a clear path of what I will be working on in the summer to pursue my long-term goals.
