At-Home GMAT Can Now Be Taken Until Aug. 14, GRE Until Sept. 30

When the at-home version of the GMAT was launched back in April, it was supposed to be “an interim, short-term solution” during a time when test centers were largely closed due to the pandemic. The first at-home GMAT exams went live on April 20th and had an initial cutoff of June 15th.

Then, in early June, GMAC said it would continue to run the online version of the test through July 17 and will “open additional appointment dates as needed.”

With more states and countries now reporting new surges of coronavirus cases, GMAC has now extended the deadline for taking the at-home version of its test a second time until Aug. 14th. Of course, it’s also possible that with the pandemic still wreaking havoc in the world, test-takers will have even more time to take the test. For now, however, it will be available at least until the middle of August.

AT-HOME GRE CAN BE TAKEN UNTIL SEPT. 30

The rival at-home GRE exam, by Educational Testing Service, is currently available around the clock Friday through Monday until June 30, and then seven days a week from July 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

As previously reported, test-taking users of the GMAT were finally permitted to use a physical whiteboard for notes while taking the test. That came into effect on June 11th after widespread complaints that the online whiteboard was so awkward to use that it could cost test-takers valuable points on the exam. For test-takers who took the GMAT online exam before the ability to use a physical whiteboard was made available, GMAC is offering the option to take the GMAT online exam an additional time and waiving the one-time limit on the GMAT at-home exam.

Appointment times for the at-home exam are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Candidates can schedule an exam appointment up to 24 hours before an available testing window. “We will continue to monitor conditions and look to add future appointment dates as needed,” according to GMAC.
