Why was it so important to you? The innovation and entrepreneurship focus of the programme was the main reason why I chose Imperial’s MBA. Technology and innovation are key for solving today’s problems and improving the way we live and interact. I want to play a role in the design and implementation of these changes and solutions, and an MBA from Imperial College Business School is the programme that best suits my needs. What club or extracurricular activity excites you most at this school? The Imperial Innovation Challenge, because of its exposure to real-life problems. What makes London such a great place to earn an MBA? How have you taken advantage of London to further your business education? As Europe’s business and financial centre, London is one of the most cosmopolitan cities of the world. Pursuing an MBA and career here represents a unique opportunity to build a strong personal and professional background to achieve my mid- and long-term goals. Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: Changing my career’s focus and moving from a not-for-profit organisation to a big tech company in one of their fastest growing markets has been one of the biggest challenges I have faced professionally. It was a tough decision because changing industry represented a huge sacrifice in terms of career path and professional progression (things which I had to work hard for). Despite my five years of professional experience, I started in a junior position at Uber since I lacked industry expertise. The main challenge for me was to quickly adapt to a new culture and environment in a company that was growing at an accelerated pace. At Uber, my biggest achievement so far has been not only successfully adapting and building strong personal and professional relationships, but also be one of the top performers among my Latin American peers before moving to London to pursue my next challenge. What led you to pursue an MBA at this point in your career? I want to have an impact and play a role in creating solutions and experiences that positively influence society. I know that to enhance my profile, I need to broaden my business perspective and close some gaps. Imperial’s MBA provides a great learning and networking platform since it brings together a talented faculty and student body in a collaborative environment that fosters personal and professional growth. What was your defining moment and how did it prepare you for business school? Throughout my professional experience, I have encountered several amazing professionals from whom I have learned and who have inspired my career path. The commonality among most of them was a postgraduate degree. When I realised that, I immediately decided to pursue this goal and started my MBA journey. My preparation was an introspective exercise which involved a lot of reflection and self-evaluation that helped me become more aware of my profile and set my short and long-term goals. I talked to different people and alumni from several business schools to learn about their experiences, key learnings, and benefits from pursuing an MBA.
