Undergraduate School and Major: B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering Most Recent Employer and Job Title: Mezora Consumers, Senior Business Manager Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of IIM Calcutta’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? There were multiple factors that motivated me to choose IIMC. However, the top-most reason was the brand name of IIM Calcutta, and being associated with this premier business school is indeed a matter of pride for me. What has been your favorite course or extracurricular activity at IIM Calcutta? What has been the most important lesson that you have learned from it? Having been in the industry for more than 5 years, we all have some or the other idea of various management disciplines such as operations, finance, and marketing. Of course, we build upon our knowledge, re-learn and un-learn things about such subjects here at IIMC. But there was this one course called Managerial Communication that was something out of the box, particularly for me. It helped me build a new perspective on communication. Now I no longer listen to or read things as they are; I subconsciously apply that “managerial communication” lens that really helps in interpreting what the other person is actually trying to communicate and what is the reasoning behind the way they are communicating things. What has been the best part of studying business in Kolkata? Kolkata has its own charm in the form of its unique culture. And it has a homely feel. Even though it’s the first time that I am away from my home, I have never really felt that way. So, studying business here is like studying business from the comfort of your home. Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: As a product manager, I once helped convert a Fortune 500 prospect into a customer by launching product features that helped them understand their cloud security posture. That was also my company’s venture into the uncharted territory of cloud security, a $6B market, through these features. Describe your biggest accomplishment as an MBA student so far: As an MBA student, I take pride in my academic achievements, securing a place in the top 10 out of a batch of 77 students. Additionally, being a core member of the organizing committee, I had the privilege of hosting the largest-ever business conclave at IIM Calcutta, where we hosted one of India’s most popular young entrepreneurs as a speaker. What is your class’s favorite hangout away from school? Why do you gather there? The class’s favorite hangout is the hostel’s lounge. Whenever we want to relax or just chill out, that’s the go-to place where we de-stress by playing table tennis, pool, and other board games. What do you hope to do after graduation? I hope to get into product management in a Fortune 500 company after graduation. Product is what excites me the most. What advice would you give to help potential applicants gain admission into IIM Calcutta? I would advise the potential applicants to focus on their individual strengths and bring out uniqueness and originality in the applications. Most people don’t put much thought in their applications. And with the advent of generative AI models such as ChatGPT, it has become very easy to generate answers to the essay questions. But the downside is that the evaluators don’t get to see the “real” applicant, and that’s a problem. DON’T MISS: MEET THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CALCUTTA MBAEX CLASS OF 2024
