Where are you currently working? Garmin International, Title: Design Engineering Team Leader

What achievement are you most proud of in your professional career? I am most proud of having a Super Bowl commercial for a product I designed, the Motorola PEBL 2005. It showed that the product, I was part of designing was really cool and deserving of the investment in a Super Bowl commercial.

Why did you choose this school’s online MBA program? When COVID forced all education online, I decided I wanted to attend the best program I could. Research showed that UNL’s Online MBA program was the #1 value program in the country.

What was your favorite part of being in an online MBA program? I was able to do most of the work on the weekends when I wasn’t consumed by my career.

What was the most surprising thing about an online learning environment? I was able to make connections with other students, which I’ve been able to stay in contact with beyond the classes.

How did your online experience compare with your in-the-classroom experience as an undergraduate student? I believe I learn much better in the classroom, However, due to COVID, I was not possible to attend an in-person MBA program. Therefore, I chose the best MBA program in the country.

What is your best piece of advice to an applicant for thriving in an online MBA program? Study the syllabus, look forward in the assignments, and learn the unique style of the professor as quickly as possible.

How has your online education helped you in your current job? As an engineer, having a better understanding of business has helped me when making decisions that affect not only the design, but also the financial side of the business.

Did you earn a promotion while in the program or immediately after graduation? I have not received a promotion and I do not expect one directly related to earning my MBA. However, the skills I’ve learned will serve me as my career progresses.

Why did you pursue an online MBA program instead of a full-time residential program? I have a full-time career and financial obligations.

Number of Hours Per Week Spent on an Online MBA: Approximately 10 hours per week, some classes more and some classes less.

What is your ultimate long-term professional goal? I would like to be a Director of Engineering at a major US corporation.
